Uniting Tradition and Innovation: ONI&Co. at the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Food Collection
In an exciting culinary showcase, the
Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Food Collection themed "Reiwa no Ie – The Essence of Family and Gastronomy" welcomed the renowned onigiri specialty shop
ONI&Co. This event, orchestrated by
Otabe Goro with the collaboration of the Kyoto
Rojiin Club, sought to explore how the legendary culinary figure
Kitauji Rosanjin might have enjoyed food in our contemporary era. The concept revolves around bringing together flavors that evoke a sense of nostalgia while invigorating the palate, making guests long to return for more delicious bites.
At the heart of this event,
ONI&Co. introduced a limited-time offering, the "
Black Wagyu Sukiyaki with Shin Gobou Miso Onigiri." This exquisite creation encapsulates the theme of familial dining, transforming the cherished sukiyaki dish into the beloved Japanese rice ball.
The rice ball features delectable black wagyu beef prepared with
Yuasa Soy Sauce's unique
Rosanjin Soy Sauce, paired with an extraordinary Shin Gobou (new burdock) miso that adds a hint of bitterness and depth to the flavor. The design reflects a commitment to artistry that resonates with those who appreciate culinary innovation.
Visitors to the collection were treated to a memorable experience. Throughout the exhibition, numerous guests frequented ONI&Co. and conveyed their admiration for the
Black Wagyu Sukiyaki onigiri. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with comments like "visually stunning" echoing through the venue as attendees indulged in various rice balls and bento offerings.
The event ran from
July 8 to July 14, 2026, at the
Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store's basement level. It was a celebration not just of food but of the cultural fabric that binds generations through shared meals.
ONI&Co. remains dedicated to exploring new possibilities in the realm of onigiri, striving to elevate Japanese rice balls to a global scale while ensuring the richness of Japan's food culture remains easily accessible to everyone. According to ONI&Co., it’s more than just food; it’s about creating connections, memories, and an appreciation for the culinary arts.
As a venture, ONI&Co. is driven by the mission of transforming the onigiri experience into something that meets global standards in fast casual dining. This small startup,
