A Brief History of the Play
The Moon is Watching Me Today originally premiered in
2008 and has been a beloved piece performed by numerous theatre groups ever since. This production, affectionately referred to as
Tsukiboku, became particularly well-known for its performances at the
Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Exhibition in the summer of
2012. During this week-long event, the show initially attracted around
20 audience members in a 50-seat venue. However, through word-of-mouth promotion, the audience grew to over
70 by the final day, prompting the producers to delay the start time to accommodate the influx of spectators. This experience was a true testament to the power of theatre, as it showcased the magnetic draw of storytelling.
Following its impactful debut, Theatre Group Tomu has continued to stage this performance multiple times. Now, almost two decades later, the original leading actors are coming together again for a highly anticipated presentation. Expect a thrilling experience fueled by their early enthusiasm and the wealth of experience they bring back to the stage.
Synopsis of the Play
The story is set in the summer of
2006 and follows the main character,
Keita Arai, who works at an advertising agency and begins experiencing ghostly phenomena three days prior. The slightly dubious spiritual medium
Reiki arrives to consult with him, insisting she has insights into the mysterious spirit that is haunting Keita. This becomes particularly significant as Keita lost his girlfriend
Yuka in an accident just ten days before the haunting began. As Reiki attempts to communicate with the spirit, a mix of emotions and revelations unfold.
