Valmet Announces Changes in Manufacturing Operations Across Sweden, Poland, and Finland

Valmet's Strategic Changes Across Europe

Valmet, a global leader in technology solutions for process industries, has announced the conclusion of change negotiations pertaining to its manufacturing operations in Sweden, Poland, and Finland. Initiated earlier in 2026, these negotiations aim to enhance the company's competitiveness in the market and optimize its manufacturing footprint.

The negotiations focused on Valmet's Global Supply unit, particularly its Biomaterial Solutions and Services segment. This strategic move is designed to align the operational efficiency of Valmet's global manufacturing network with long-term business goals. As part of these adjustments, the company will close its manufacturing site in Sundsvall, Sweden, while implementing significant changes in its facilities located in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Jelenia Góra, Poland.

The outcome of these negotiations is expected to impact approximately 350 employees across the two countries. This reduction illustrates the company's commitment to streamlining processes and retaining its market position amidst evolving industry demands.

Additionally, a separate negotiation process in Finland, initiated in April 2026, has also been concluded. These discussions led to the decision for temporary layoffs, which are projected to affect around 2,400 employees starting June 2026 and potentially lasting until the end of December 2026. This action is aimed at preserving profitability amidst an unexpected decline in workload, with layoffs expected to be temporary in nature, lasting a maximum of 90 days.

In light of these significant changes, Valmet is dedicated to supporting its workforce during this transition period. The company emphasizes its engagement with employees and their representatives to navigate the adjustments effectively.

Valmet's strategic restructuring is indicative of a broader trend seen across industries, where companies must adapt to shifting market landscapes and operational challenges. With approximately 18,500 employees globally, Valmet is well-positioned to leverage its extensive industry experience—over 225 years—and provide comprehensive solutions to its customers.

In 2025, Valmet reported net sales of approximately EUR 5.2 billion, further solidifying its role as a market leader in delivering innovative technologies, services, and automation solutions. Headquartered in Espoo, Finland, Valmet maintains a strong presence with expert teams situated in approximately 40 countries, underlining its commitment to enhancing industrial landscapes worldwide.

As this restructuring process unfolds, Valmet’s continued focus on operational excellence, employee welfare, and customer satisfaction will remain critical to sustaining its leadership in the competitive landscape of process technology solutions.
