Upcoming Nationale d'Élevage 2025 in Mende: A Celebration of Swiss and French Hunting Dogs

Upcoming Nationale d'Élevage 2025 in Mende

Le Club Français des Brunos et des Chiens Courants Suisses (CFBCCS) is excited to announce that it will host its Nationale d'Élevage, a prestigious breeding event, on June 29, 2025, in Mende, located in the Lozère region of France. This year's event coincides with the Salon Gabalitana Chasse-Pêche-Cheval-Nature, making it a significant occasion for dog enthusiasts and the hunting community alike.

The Nationale d'Élevage allows spectators to admire some of the finest examples of Swiss and French dog breeds, particularly focusing on the unique varieties of the Swiss Hound. Attendees will also have the chance to learn about the club's vital initiatives that aim to preserve these ancient breeds and promote their characteristics and abilities in hunting.

A Rich Historical Legacy

The Swiss Hound boasts a rich history, with its roots traceable back to Roman times. The discovery of a mosaic in Avenches serves as proof of its long existence. Throughout the centuries, these dogs garnered international acclaim; they were sought after by Italian hunters during the 15th century and later by the French in the 18th century for their exceptional skills in hare hunting. In 1933, the FCBCC established a standardized category for the recognized breeds: the Bernese, Bruno du Jura, Lucernois, and Schwytzois.

Versatile Hunters

Renowned for their prowess in hunting, Swiss Hounds demonstrate remarkable abilities and traits. Their keen sense of smell sets them apart, enabling them to track and hunt various game species efficiently, whether traversing challenging terrain or working alone or in packs. Smaller Swiss Hounds share these qualities, adapting well to hunting small game such as rabbits as well as larger species.

Among these breeds, the Bruno du Jura stands out for its exceptional performance in competitions. This breed secured victories at the Coupe de France for Hare twice, in 1994 and 2014, and received honorable mentions in the years 2005, 2018, and 2023. With the growing popularity of big-game hunting, the Bruno du Jura has become indispensable for hunters.

The Bruno Saint-Hubert Français, a breed that recalls its origins from Argovie dogs, is recognized for its strong build and endurance. This breed, classified under the FCBCC in 2000, is known for its excellent tracking skills and is also known for its distinctive bark.

The Commitment of the CFBCCS

The Club Français des Brunos et des Chiens Courants Suisses plays a crucial role in preserving these iconic breeds. They provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise regarding breeding practices and competitions, ensuring that the tradition and discipline around these breeds continue to thrive.
