California Community Foundation Activates CCF Impact Fund for Boyle Heights Fire Relief
In an urgent response to the devastating warehouse fire that has impacted the Boyle Heights community, the California Community Foundation (CCF) has initiated the CCF Impact Fund. This fund aims to provide immediate support to residents affected by the ongoing crisis, which has been exacerbated by fire and air quality concerns.
Background of the Incident
The fire, which broke out at a cold storage facility on South Los Palos Street on June 21, 2026, has continued to burn for four consecutive days, leading to significant disruptions for the families living in the area. The local government has issued shelter-in-place advisories due to hazardous air quality, and officials have raised alarms about a developing biohazard from an estimated 85 million pounds of frozen food that is now beginning to spoil.
On Saturday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a local emergency, prompting Governor Gavin Newsom to announce a state of emergency for Los Angeles County. This declaration is aimed at mobilizing additional resources to assist with public health and safety measures in response to the crisis.
Support Through CCF Impact Fund
Recognizing the urgent needs of the Boyle Heights residents — many of whom are grappling with disrupted livelihoods, health concerns stemming from smoke exposure, and food insecurity — CCF’s Impact Fund will deliver essential services to the community. The fund’s resources will be deployed through trusted local organizations already working within the community. This ensures that aid reaches the residents effectively and is delivered with dignity.
The fund will provide:
- - Angeleno Cards: Cash assistance for affected households in partnership with the City of Los Angeles.
- - Food Distribution: Addressing immediate needs due to the spoilage of groceries and loss of income.
- - Air Purifiers: To mitigate smoke exposure and improve air quality in affected homes.
- - Emergency Essentials: This includes masks, water, and additional supplies for displaced residents.
Miguel A. Santana, President and CEO of CCF, emphasized, “Boyle Heights families should not have to face this emergency alone. The local organizations best positioned to reach residents quickly and with dignity are those already embedded in the community.” He stated that the CCF Impact Fund is crucial in getting resources where they’re needed most.
How to Help
The CCF is actively seeking donations for the Impact Fund. Contributions will be directed toward addressing the immediate needs of residents as they cope with the aftermath of the fire. As the situation progresses, the CCF intends to partner with city, county, and state agencies, along with community leaders, shifting from immediate relief to longer-term recovery plans once the crisis abates.
