In an innovative step towards promoting hydration awareness and preventing heat-related illnesses among athletes and outdoor workers, Euphoria Co., Ltd. has announced a collaboration with One Tap Sports and Otsuka Pharmaceutical's Vivoo. The two organizations are combining their technologies to empower individuals with better nutrition monitoring through urine analysis, which measures hydration levels among other vital parameters.
Euphoria, situated in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has been developing its data management system, One Tap Sports, aimed at athletes and those working in high-risk environments. With heat-related health issues on the rise, especially in outdoor labor such as construction and agriculture, this partnership seeks to address the critical need for effective monitoring of hydration status.
The launch of their joint service focuses on visualizing hydration habits through Vivoo's urinary assessments. Specifically, it enables users to see their hydration levels, thus encouraging healthier water consumption patterns that can mitigate the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke—a significant concern raised by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Japan due to increasing numbers of heat-related casualties in workplace settings.
Background
Recent reports indicate that heat-related injuries in the workplace are becoming alarmingly common, particularly in outdoor and high-temperature work environments. The symptoms of heat-related illnesses often sneak up on individuals, leading to potentially life-threatening conditions when hydration is neglected. In particular, Euphoria recognizes that self-awareness of dehydration symptoms can be insufficient, as many workers may not feel thirsty until they are already dehydrated.
As sports professionals, Euphoria has leveraged over a decade of experience in condition management to formulate solutions that can extend beyond athletic fields to protect the health of workers classified as "industrial athletes," such as construction workers and delivery personnel who perform their duties under demanding conditions.
The collaboration with Vivoo involves a seamless integration via API, which allows data from Vivoo's hydration assessments to be directly relayed to the One Tap Sports platform. This fusion provides a powerful tool for employers and health managers to scrutinize hydration patterns, increasing awareness and vigilance regarding hydration practices among workers.
Pilot Program with Okumura Corporation
To assess the functionality and effectiveness of this initiative, Euphoria and the construction firm Okumura Corporation conducted a proof-of-concept project in September 2024. Involving 16 construction workers, the study tracked pre-shift hydration levels and personal water intake over two days. The findings revealed that approximately 37.5% of workers demonstrated low hydration levels before starting their day. Alarmingly, 81.25% of these individuals reported not feeling dehydrated, highlighting the crucial need for objective data to counter reliance on personal feelings when it comes to hydration.
Surveys conducted post-study indicated that 80% of participants felt more conscious about hydration following the use of Vivoo’s services, underscoring the positive impact of data visibility in nurturing better hydration practices.
Future Projections
Euphoria plans to incorporate Vivoo's hydration data within the One Tap Sports system's broader analytical framework that includes weight fluctuation, subjective health symptoms, and AI-driven advice. This holistic approach aims to create a tailored, responsive environment enhancing workplace safety and efficiency.
Moreover, Euphoria's model aspires to branch out to other sectors beyond construction, such as logistics, agriculture, and outdoor event management. By establishing a data-driven infrastructure for safety and health in challenging work conditions, Euphoria is setting a benchmark in the realm of industrial health and wellness.
Upcoming Events
To showcase its hydration solutions, including the recent partnership initiative, Euphoria will be featured at the 7th Kyushu Heat Prevention Exhibition on June 24-25, 2026, at Marine Messe Fukuoka, aiming to connect with stakeholders in construction and manufacturing industries across Kyushu.
This collaborative effort symbolizes a shift towards incorporating advanced technology into everyday workplace health monitoring, ensuring workers can perform safely and effectively while reducing risks associated with dehydration and heat stress.
