Brightspeed Transforms Kansas Communities with Multi-Gigabit Fiber Internet Access

Brightspeed, the nation’s third-largest fiber broadband provider, has made significant strides in expanding high-speed internet connectivity across Kansas. Recently, the company announced the successful completion of a major fiber network project that now benefits 13 communities. This expansion marks a monumental step in bridging the digital divide for nearly 29,000 residents and businesses in these areas.

The Importance of High-Speed Internet

As society increasingly relies on the internet for work, education, and health services, access to reliable and fast internet has become crucial. Many rural communities have long been underserved, with outdated copper networks failing to meet the demands of modern technology. Brightspeed recognizes this gap and has committed to providing fiber networks that ensure residents and businesses can thrive in today’s digital world.

Carsi Mitzner, director of government affairs at Brightspeed, stated, "For too long, many rural communities have been left behind without reliable, high-speed internet. That’s why Brightspeed is working to deliver fiber networks with the speed and reliability these communities deserve."

Revolutionary Fiber Network Rollout

The fiber network is now available in Baldwin, Benedict, Ellinwood, Garnett, Garness, Hillsboro, Holton, Horton, Huntington, Junction City, Osage City, Osawatomie, and Sterling. This initiative not only enhances internet speed but also supports a range of applications such as remote working, online education, telehealth services, and local business growth.

Aaron Deacon, managing director at KC Digital Drive, emphasized the impact of this expansion: "Expanding access to high-speed fiber is one of the most impactful steps we can take to strengthen communities across Kansas. Brightspeed’s investment brings critical infrastructure to places that have long lacked reliable connectivity."

Future Expansion Plans

Brightspeed is not stopping here. The company plans to provide multi-gigabit internet access across more than 49,000 locations in 23 counties throughout Kansas. This ambitious strategy aims to ensure that every resident has the tools necessary for success, regardless of their geographic location. Currently, four out of ten Kansas residents cannot purchase a fiber internet plan, highlighting the urgency and necessity of Brightspeed’s expansion efforts.

Communities slated for fiber network deployment include Altamont, Baxter Springs, Buffalo, Buhler, Burlington, Coyville, Fredonia, Galena, Haven, Hesston, Hiawatha, Highland, Inman, Oskaloosa, Oswego, Riverton, St. John, Spring Hill, Valley Falls, and Wellsville. This rollout promises to bring enhanced service reliability and connection speeds to countless families and businesses.

Monetary Investment and Community Engagement

To support this project, Kansas has allocated $474,114 from the American Rescue Plan Act, paired with Brightspeed's investment exceeding $1.2 million. These funds will enable more than 500 families and businesses in Wilson to access high-speed internet, illustrating a robust commitment to expanding connectivity in the area.

In addition to the technical aspects, Brightspeed representatives are actively engaging with the community. They are visiting neighborhoods in St. John to inform residents about the new fiber services being offered. The approachable and knowledgeable staff are wearing Brightspeed-branded apparel, ready to assist locals in understanding the benefits and options available. This face-to-face engagement highlights Brightspeed’s dedication to customer satisfaction and transparency in communication.

Looking Ahead

As Brightspeed continues on this ambitious path, the positive implications for local economies, educational institutions, and healthcare services are abundantly clear. By providing equitable access to high-speed internet, Brightspeed is not only enhancing internet connectivity but is also paving the way for economic development and educational advancement throughout Kansas. This initiative exemplifies how strategic investments in infrastructure can lead to lasting improvements in community resilience and economic viability.
