Delvaux Celebrates Japanese Craftsmanship with New Collection Inspired by Gold Leaf Artistry

Delvaux Unveils 'Craft Beyond Borders'

Belgium's esteemed luxury leather goods house, Delvaux, known for being the official purveyor to the Belgian royal family, has launched an innovative new collection titled 'Craft Beyond Borders'. This distinct collection reflects the intricate beauty of Japanese craftsmanship, specifically inspired by the extraordinary tradition of gold leaf artistry developed in Kanazawa, Japan. This partnership with Hakuichi, an esteemed artisan company from Kanazawa, represents a cross-cultural dialogue that highlights the importance of craftsmanship and artistry.

Delvaux was founded in 1829, making it one of the oldest luxury leather goods houses in the world. Throughout its long history, the brand has maintained a reputation for superior craftsmanship and a dedication to creating beautifully constructed designs. The 'Craft Beyond Borders' collection exemplifies Delvaux's commitment to exploring new expressions of creativity through dialogue with artisans from around the globe.

The first chapter of this unique collection is set in Japan. Delvaux chose to spotlight Kanazawa's rich gold leaf culture for its sophistication and precision. The delicate nature of gold leaf, coupled with the discipline required to manipulate it, resonates deeply with Delvaux's own mission to merge tradition with innovation.

In this collection, Delvaux's iconic bags are adorned with Kanazawa gold leaf, adding a touch of luminous elegance. The gold leaf has been artfully integrated into the edges and seams of the leather, blending seamlessly with Delvaux's signature structural silhouettes. This results in a collection that encapsulates the intersection of craftsmanship and art, offering a bold new aesthetic.

Since its inception in 1975, Hakuichi has been at the forefront of preserving and expanding the art of Kanazawa gold leaf. Their dedication to utilizing gold leaf spans various fields, including architecture and art, while also promoting the core values of Japan's craft culture. Recently, they have engaged in initiatives such as supporting Kintsugi—a traditional Japanese method of repairing pottery—to revive and pass down vital craft techniques within Japan.

The collaboration with Hakuichi allows Delvaux to draw on an extensive heritage of craftsmanship, infusing the 'Craft Beyond Borders' collection with both skill and sophistication.

From June 4th to June 17th, 2026, a portion of this exceptional collection will be publicly displayed and sold at the Arts and Culture section of Wako in Ginza, Tokyo. During this time, visitors can witness live demonstrations from Belgian leather artisans, as well as traditional craftspeople from Kanazawa showcasing their skills in gold leaf artistry and Kintsugi techniques.
