On October 20, 2025, St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens will hold a significant event marking the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a pivotal declaration that reshaped Catholic-Jewish relations. This gathering, titled "Nostra Aetate at 60: Celebrating the Legacy of Catholic-Jewish Relations in America," will feature prominent faith leaders and aim to foster interfaith dialogue among attendees.

A Legacy of Understanding

The panel discussion will showcase a variety of esteemed speakers, including Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Thomas Wenski from the Archdiocese of Miami, and Rabbi Mario Rojzman of Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus. Together, these leaders will engage in meaningful conversations that focus on the lasting effects of Nostra Aetate, which was originally promulgated during the Second Vatican Council in 1965, emphasizing respect and understanding between Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

Originally dubbed "In Our Time" in Latin, Nostra Aetate challenged the Catholic Church to reevaluate its stance towards non-Christian religions, particularly Judaism, and to encourage mutual respect and shared values. The declaration also addressed and condemned historical antisemitism, paving the way for healthier interreligious relationships.

The event is set to take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and is free for the public to attend. The collaboration between St. Thomas University, the Archdiocese of Miami, and the American Jewish Committee reflects a shared commitment to enhancing interfaith understanding in today’s world.
