Rehlko Doubles Annual Backup Power Capacity at Changzhou Facility to Meet Growing Demand

Rehlko Doubles Annual Backup Power Capacity in Changzhou

Rehlko, a prominent player in industrial energy security, has unveiled a significant strategic investment at its manufacturing facility in Changzhou, China. This investment aims to double its annual backup power capacity from 5.5 gigawatts (GW) to an impressive 11 GW. This substantial increase is a direct response to the surging demand for energy solutions driven by various sectors, including AI infrastructure, data centers, semiconductors, and general efforts to build a more resilient supply chain.

Changzhou: A Key Manufacturing Hub

The Changzhou facility is not just another production site; it is becoming increasingly integral to Rehlko's global manufacturing network. Here, generator systems ranging from 6 kW to 4,000 kW are produced alongside essential components that support Rehlko's worldwide manufacturing endeavors. The significance of this plant is paramount as it alleviates supply chain bottlenecks and enhances the robustness of Rehlko's global operations. The site serves clients across China, Southeast Asia, the EMEA region, and Latin America.

Commitment to Growth

Brian Melka, President and CEO of Rehlko, emphasizes the importance of this ongoing investment. He states, "Our continued investments in Changzhou reflect the discipline behind our growth. We are doubling capacity while simultaneously increasing speed and precision for every system we deliver." This dedication not only showcases Rehlko's commitment to its customers in Asia but also across the entire EMEA region and Latin America.

Enhancements Made

Among the recent advancements at the Changzhou site are the commissioning of a smart production line for smaller generator systems, the introduction of a new intelligent storage system, and modernizations of production lines for medium and large generators. Additionally, the facility has integrated automated guided vehicles and a manufacturing execution system to streamline operations further.

These significant investments have already produced measurable results. Since 2020, shipping revenue from the Changzhou site has doubled, with first-pass yield improving from 93% to an impressive 98%. The strategic move to double its annual backup power capacity to 11 GW reflects the combined effect of capacity expansion, automation, and operational enhancements achieved under the investment program, all without the need for physical expansion of the site.

Global Strategy and Investments

This expansion in Changzhou is part of a broader global investment initiative by Rehlko in manufacturing, which includes capacity and capability expansions at its facilities in Colmar and Cholet in France, as well as Kenosha in the United States. Additionally, the company plans to acquire WB Power Services and Wiltech Acoustics in the UK by 2025. Collectively, these investments underscore Rehlko’s commitment to building a manufacturing platform capable of supporting customers in all major regions where the company operates.
