Recognizing Contributions to Blood Cancer Research

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting brought together thousands of researchers and clinicians dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of blood cancers. Among the highlights of the event was the prestigious LLS Research Awards Networking Event, held on December 8, 2024, in San Diego. Here, six outstanding scientists were honored for their groundbreaking work in blood cancer research by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

At the forefront of this recognition was Dr. Elvin Wagenblast, who was awarded the 2024 LLS-CDP Special Fellow Achievement Award. Currently an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine, he employs advanced CRISPR/Cas-9 genome editing techniques to study how normal blood stem cells can transform into malignant cells, particularly focusing on childhood leukemia. His research aims to enhance understanding of the mechanisms underlying this transformation, paving the way for earlier detection and innovative treatment methods.
