Edan Instruments Showcases Global Health Equity Commitment at WHO Event in Switzerland
Edan Instruments Highlights Commitment to Global Health Equity
Edan Instruments, Inc. (300206.SZ), a renowned leader in medical devices, recently participated in a pivotal side event during the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva on May 20, 2025. The event, co-hosted by Tsinghua University and the University of Geneva, focused on "Chinese Innovation in Medical Technology and Its Implications for Global Health," bringing together innovators, policymakers, and development partners. The aim? To discuss how Chinese medical technology can enhance equitable healthcare, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Edan's Vision for Accessible Healthcare
At the event, Xicheng Xie, co-founder of Edan, shared insights from the company’s three decades of experience, emphasizing that true innovation transcends sophisticated technology; it lies in delivering effective solutions to those who need them the most. He highlighted Edan's ongoing efforts to produce accessible and practical medical technologies that make a real-world impact.
Xie's presentation included details about an initiative utilizing Edan's portable Nano Series ultrasound diagnostic system to support essential prenatal care in resource-limited settings. This project aims to equip primary healthcare workers with timely screening tools for high-risk pregnancies, thereby ensuring better maternal health outcomes.
Innovative Technologies for Global Impact
Additionally, Xie introduced several key technologies, such as ultra-compact fetal Dopplers, Edan's intelligent IQ algorithm, and its smart ECG web platform. Each of these products is designed to address infrastructural gaps and reduce dependence on scarce medical personnel, illustrating Edan's commitment to improving healthcare accessibility.
Global Presence and Local Impact
With a longstanding presence in both high-end and resource-limited markets, Edan has established a global footprint that spans Europe to Africa. The company operates 22 subsidiaries worldwide, a strategic move aimed at enhancing local support and ensuring more responsive services. This localized support allows Edan to gather direct feedback, continually improving their products and maximizing their impact.
The company also collaborates on various significant projects in LMICs with NGOs, public health agencies, and development partners. These projects include maternal health initiatives in South Africa, portable diagnostic system deployments in West Africa, and ultrasound screening programs in Latin America. Each year, approximately 1,000 black-and-white ultrasound units are distributed globally through NGO-led programs, broadening access to essential healthcare services and fostering local capacities through training and support.
A Commitment to Humanity
"At Edan, we believe that innovation combined with value can enhance the human condition," concluded Xie. This mission is at the heart of everything they do, from product design to global partnerships. As Edan approaches its 30th anniversary in 2025, the company remains dedicated to delivering meaningful innovations, particularly for those who are most in need.
