U.S. Anesthesia Partners Hosts the Future Leaders in Anesthesia Conference
U.S. Anesthesia Partners, Inc. (USAP) is set to bring together over 200 medical students and residency candidates for its highly anticipated
Future Leaders in Anesthesia (FLA) conference. This significant event will take place from
September 12 to 14, 2025, at the picturesque Hotel Van Zandt located in
Austin, Texas. The conference aims to equip aspiring anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) with crucial skills and knowledge needed to excel in the ever-evolving field of anesthesia.
The FLA conference distinguishes itself as a premier leadership summit, focusing on the growth and professional development of its attendees. With participants from
27 states, including representatives from Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, the conference presents a unique opportunity for future leaders in anesthesia to network and learn from seasoned professionals.
Half of the conference programming will cater to physician residents while the other half will cater specifically to budding CRNAs. Matt Maloney, M.D., President of Clinical Operations at USAP, emphasized the importance of such initiatives: "As practicing medicine evolves, it is vital for those entering anesthesia to gain a comprehensive understanding of both clinical and business-related aspects of their profession. Leadership skills are critical to the success of medical teams and the care provided to patients."
Topics scheduled for discussion among physician residents include sessions on
hemostatic resuscitation, the complexities of anesthesia practice, workplace culture, and the imperative of clinical quality. CRNA students will explore similar business facets, along with preparation for the national certification exam and strategies to successfully navigate their first year in professional practice.
The conference's expert lineup includes top USAP personnel like
Dr. Richard Dutton, Chief Quality Officer;
Dr. Mo Azam, Head of Innovation; and
Dr. Kelly LeBlanc, Chief of Anesthesia at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital. These seasoned professionals will share valuable insights and strategies vital for succeeding in anesthesia practice.
The importance of this conference cannot be overstated, as the U.S. is currently grappling with a critical shortage of anesthesia clinicians. Reports indicate that the number of medical facilities facing such staffing shortages has more than doubled, from 35% to 78%, from early 2020 to late 2022. Projections suggest that by
2033, approximately 22% of current anesthesia providers are expected to exit the workforce, exacerbating the existing strain on health systems as the demand for surgeries continues to grow.
Recognizing the urgency of this situation, USAP directly addresses the staffing crisis by investing in promising residents and CRNA students. The organization aims to provide necessary knowledge not typically integrated into their initial training, thus better preparing them for a successful career in the demanding healthcare environment.
"Our goal is to advance the knowledge and skills of the next wave of anesthesia professionals, ultimately improving both patient care and career satisfaction," highlighted
Neal Grabarkewitz, Senior Vice President of Talent Acquisition at USAP.
Beyond the national FLA conference, USAP also organizes regional events for students. One such event recently engaged
55 CRNA students in Chicago and was covered by Crain's Chicago Business. This continued commitment to education and training highlights USAP’s dedication to not only developing future clinicians but also ensuring the highest standards of anesthetic care in the U.S.
In summary, the
Future Leaders in Anesthesia conference is an essential step in equipping the upcoming generation of anesthesiologists and CRNAs with the tools and insights necessary for success in a challenging but rewarding field. Participants can look forward to three days filled with learning, networking, and preparation to meet future demands in the anesthesia profession.
