Centalion and Komgo Revolutionize Treasury Operations with AI Integration

The Centalion Group, one of the world’s major independent commodity trading companies, has recently partnered with Komgo, a leading provider of digital trade finance platforms, to implement an innovative treasury agent that operates based on artificial intelligence (AI). This cutting-edge system is designed to streamline operations, thereby enhancing efficiency in handling trade finance instruments.

As part of its continuous drive to optimize its treasury management processes, Centalion has leveraged Komgo's Konsole platform for over five years. Despite the advancements, the treasury team was still required to navigate multiple systems to gather data, validate information, and obtain updates on process statuses. This prompted Centalion to deploy a tailored AI treasury agent situated within its cloud environment, blending a large language model with structured treasury workflows and tailored business rules.

The integration is done through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector provided by Komgo, ensuring that Centalion retains control over the AI logic while securely connecting to Komgo’s trade finance infrastructure. This seamless interaction eliminates the need for point-to-point integration projects, thus expediting the implementation process.

Initially, the AI treasury agent focuses on Centalion's off-balance-sheet syndicated instruments. The results observed so far are promising; the time to process transactions has decreased by approximately 55% for issue processing and around 80% for modifications. When this efficiency gain is applied to Centalion’s full scope of international trade finance activities, it is anticipated that over 60 working days annually could be liberated from the treasury department. This time savings presents an opportunity for the team to redirect their focus toward risk management, optimizing credit lines, and strategizing financing decisions.

Olivier Thevenon, the Treasury Manager at Centalion, noted, “We didn’t just want to create another chatbot. Our aim was to revolutionize how our Treasury team engages with the technical infrastructure. The agent can comprehend instructions, apply our rules, and prepare transactions in mere seconds, while the ultimate decision-making power remains with the Treasury team. This showcases the true potential of agentic AI within the Treasury department of a commodity trading company, allowing frictionless interactions without compromising accountability.”

Furthermore, Baptiste Audren, revenue director at Komgo, stated, “Centalion and Komgo illustrate how corporate treasury teams can develop and manage their AI capabilities atop a reliable and structured trade finance infrastructure, rather than replacing it altogether.”

As these organizations continue to embrace AI capabilities, they pave the way for a transformative shift in how treasury operations are conducted within the commodity trading sector, setting a new standard for efficiency and governance in financial management.
