Chicago Faucets Partners with BACnet International to Enhance Water Management in Building Automation

In a significant move toward modernizing plumbing technologies, Chicago Faucets has officially joined BACnet International, an initiative aimed at improving connected plumbing and advanced water management systems in commercial buildings. This collaboration coincides with the launch of the CF Connect PLUS platform, a groundbreaking solution that integrates electronic faucets directly with building automation systems through BACnet/IP technology.

Richard Nortier, Vice President of Products and Marketing at Chicago Faucets, expressed the company's enthusiasm about this collaboration. He noted, "Joining BACnet International allows us to collaborate more closely with professionals involved in the design, integration, and management of today's building systems. This partnership will enable us to enhance connectivity between plumbing infrastructures and building automation systems via BACnet-enabled technologies. We are excited to introduce CF Connect PLUS, designed to simplify and improve water management processes."

The CF Connect PLUS platform introduces an innovative method of faucet management by connecting compatible Chicago Faucets electronic faucets to building automation systems using native BACnet/IP integration. Traditional building automation systems typically monitor centralized plumbing units. In contrast, the CF Connect PLUS captures critical information, such as water temperature, directly at the point of use, providing facility management teams with valuable insights into water delivery systems for occupants.

This interactive solution is equipped with retrofit temperature sensors that can be easily installed at faucet angle stops, measuring water temperature in real time and relaying that data to the CF Connect PLUS Gateway. The Gateway then communicates this temperature information with the building automation system through the BACnet/IP protocol. This gives facility managers an unprecedented level of visibility into water temperature and plumbing performance across their buildings.

Andy McMillan, President and Managing Director of BACnet International, welcomed Chicago Faucets’ CF Connect PLUS platform. He stated, "This is the first certified BACnet-connected solution tailored specifically for commercial water monitoring and hygiene management. The integration of such critical water data with the broader building information and analytics ecosystem boosts health, safety, and operational efficiency for facility operators."

Greg Hunt, the Commercial Product Manager at Chicago Faucets, elaborated on the unique advantages of their system, saying, "With CF Connect PLUS, we are not only providing access to valuable temperature data at the point of use but equipping facility teams with the tools necessary to optimize plumbing system performance across the board."

In addition to providing real-time temperature monitoring, CF Connect PLUS enhances hygiene practices through automated flushing and integration features that allow for system status alerts and digital documentation. Each flushing event is automatically recorded, ensuring compliance and giving facility managers a comprehensive audit trail of system activities. The CF Connect PLUS Gateway can manage connections for up to 30 wired faucets or 10 faucets with Bluetooth® connectivity, fitting into standard LAN architecture for seamless building automation system integration.

The technology is especially beneficial for facilities with expansive plumbing systems, including hospitals, universities, airports, stadiums, and commercial offices, where monitoring water usage and maintaining hygiene standards is paramount. By accurately capturing data from the point of use—the faucet itself—engineers and facility managers can leverage this information to make informed decisions and improvements within their building environments.

As a leading manufacturer under the Geberit Group umbrella, Chicago Faucets is well-regarded for its durable and innovative commercial faucets and plumbing fittings. Established in Des Plaines, Illinois, the company has been serving clients across the U.S. and Canada for 125 years, cementing its reputation for performance and quality in various applications, from health to hospitality.
