Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Paul Mauriat with Special Concerts

This month marks an exciting milestone in the world of music—the 100th anniversary of legendary French composer Paul Mauriat. To honor his memory, a special concert titled "Paul Mauriat 'Love Sounds' Orchestra" will take place on July 31 and August 1 at the Tokyo International Forum Hall A. The event promises to be a nostalgic journey through Mauriat's iconic pieces such as "Love is Blue" and "The Olive Tree Necklace", which have captivated audiences not just in France, but worldwide, cultivating the soothing genre of "Easy Listening". Over the years, Mauriat's music has left an indelible mark on Japan, with nearly 1,000 concerts contributing to the country’s rich musical culture.

This exclusive concert, held with the consent of Mrs. Irène Mauriat, will feature original scores and is the only official tribute to Mauriat globally. Renowned conductor Shinpei Sasaki, known for his refined style and elegance, will lead the 'Love Sounds Orchestra,' comprised of Japan's top musicians who came together to celebrate Mauriat’s legacy. This upcoming musical celebration, just a month and a half away, has already generated much excitement.

Adding to the anticipation, popular freelance announcer Shinsuke Kasai has been chosen to host the event. Kasai, known for his charismatic presence on various Fuji TV programs, including a long-term stint as the main assistant on "Information Presenter Tokudane!", is well-prepared for this notable role. A dedicated film and theater enthusiast, he watches over 130 new movies each year and frequently attends musicals and Takarazuka performances, showcasing his deep appreciation for the arts.

Reflecting on his selection as host, Kasai expressed immense joy: "Is this for me? It's such an incredible offer! When I learned about the concert, I instantly wanted to be part of it. Paul Mauriat's music was hugely popular during my middle school days, especially the commercials featuring the stylish conductor with a mustache. His appeal extended beyond music; his image became a symbol of foreign sophistication for many Japanese during the Showa era. Mauriat's compositions, like 'Love is Blue' and 'The Olive Tree Necklace', evoke a sense of chic elegance and joy. I feel honored to host such an amazing concert."

The Paul Mauriat 100th Anniversary Concert 'Love Sounds Orchestra' consists of three performances across two days, with the Tokyo shows taking place on July 31 and August 1, and an additional concert scheduled in Osaka at the Festival Hall on August 17.
