The Brotherhood Sister Sol's 2026 Voices Gala to Honor Iman and Derek Fordjour in New York City

The Brotherhood Sister Sol's 2026 Voices Gala

On May 14, 2026, The Brotherhood Sister Sol (BroSis) will celebrate its annual Voices Gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. This year's gala will honor two remarkable figures: supermodel, entrepreneur, and author Iman, and the acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Derek Fordjour. Established in Harlem in 1995, BroSis aims to educate and empower youth to foster a sense of community power and promote equity in the society.

About The Brotherhood Sister Sol

BroSis is more than just an organization; it’s a community committed to helping young individuals navigate their formative years. Through various programs including mentoring, academic support, and career development workshops, BroSis engages thousands of youth annually, striving to instill a sense of identity, history, and power in them. Their initiatives include food programs, environmental education, and leadership development designed to prepare students for success beyond the classroom. Notably, since 2018, every senior from BroSis has graduated high school and a staggering 94% have pursued higher education since 2023.

Recognition for Iman and Derek Fordjour

Both honorees express heartfelt commitment towards youth empowerment. Iman stated, "When we invest in youth, we invest in the future of our shared humanity." She acknowledges BroSis's role in providing a nurturing environment where young voices are heard and recognized.

Similarly, Derek Fordjour says, "The Brotherhood Sister Sol inspires me greatly. Their compassionate approach addresses urgent needs with an unwavering commitment." He emphasizes the organization’s radical love and its ability to strengthen communities.

A Call for Support

As the executive director and co-founder Khary Lazarre-White explained, BroSis operates at the intersection of education and social justice. The complexities of today’s world demand a consistent support system, community belonging, and deeply rooted belief in the youth’s potential. Over the past 30 years, they’ve established infrastructure, relationships, and care to achieve this mission, which is becoming increasingly vital.

Paul E. Butler, president and transformation director of New America, reiterated the importance of sustaining youth through challenging times. "At BroSis, we believe that when youth receive stable support and genuine opportunities, they thrive," he asserted. He expressed gratitude to both Iman and Derek for their inspiring roles as models for young leaders.

Gala Highlights and Sponsors

The 2026 Voices Gala will not only celebrate these extraordinary leaders but will also serve as a crucial fundraising event aimed at enhancing BroSis programming throughout the year. Major sponsorship comes from Turner Construction Company, alongside various other organizations and individuals who contribute to the cause.

Funds raised during the gala will ensure BroSis can continue providing its essential services across New York City, promoting equity and opportunity for all youth involved.

Gala leadership includes co-chairs Clara Markowicz and Paul E. Butler, along with a dedicated fundraising team from various sectors committed to the cause.
