Lauren Casentini: Celebrated Badass in Green for 2025 Climate Leadership

Celebrating a Leader in Climate Action

Lauren Casentini, the driving force behind Resource Innovations (RI), has been recognized as a 2025 Badass in Green by California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters). This prestigious award honors trailblazers who are forging bold paths toward climate solutions.

Steve Schiller, a board member of EnviroVoters, pointed out the pivotal role Lauren plays in the climate movement. He highlighted her commitment to pushing boundaries and creating substantial impacts, which embody the essence of being a Badass in Green.

A Proven Track Record of Leadership

With over thirty years of experience, Lauren has established a robust record of transformative leadership. From starting utility efficiency programs in California’s agricultural sector to advising on national energy policies, she has fundamentally reshaped the way utilities and communities approach decarbonization. Under her leadership, Resource Innovations has made it to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies four times, a rare feat achieved by less than 6% of firms in the United States.

Founded in 2016, Resource Innovations has seen exponential growth. What began as a small Bay Area start-up has evolved into a major player with over 1,000 employees, providing technology-driven energy solutions across thirty states, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

Driving Clean Energy in California

California stands as a cornerstone for RI’s impactful initiatives. Home to more than 300 employees, RI has pioneered innovative energy rebate programs for local utilities. A significant milestone was achieved in 2023 when RI was appointed as California's inaugural Market Transformation Administrator (CalMTA), establishing a comprehensive strategy for equitable energy efficiency throughout the state.

Moreover, RI has expanded its commitment to equity by leading income-qualified energy efficiency initiatives across the nation and launching Puerto Rico's first-ever energy efficiency program. The recent acquisition of Fresno-based Richard Heath Associates in 2025 further solidifies their dedication to enhancing access to clean energy, particularly in underserved communities.

Quantifiable Climate Impact

In 2024 alone, RI facilitated the avoidance of over 823,800 metric tons of CO2 emissions—equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 170,000 homes. Remarkably, the company's emissions impact ratio indicates that for every ton of greenhouse gases emitted by RI, they helped clients mitigate an astonishing 11,500 tons of emissions. Additionally, their programs delivered more than $710 million in rebates, directly reducing energy costs for homes and businesses across the United States.

Join the Celebration

Mark your calendars for the 2025 Badass in Green Awards, which will take place on Friday, June 27, at SmogShoppe in Los Angeles. This event will gather California’s climate leaders to celebrate the collective efforts toward sustainable change. Tickets are available for those who want to be part of this inspiring occasion, with proceeds bolstering EnviroVoters’ statewide advocacy for climate justice.

Lauren expressed her gratitude for the honor, stating, "California has always served as a benchmark for climate innovation. I’m thrilled to stand with fellow Badasses in Green, relentlessly advocating for solutions that provide clean energy, employment opportunities, and resilient communities, both locally and across the country."
