Exploring the Artistic Frontier: 2026 CAA Graduation Season Unveils Global Youth Dialogue

Grand Tour • 2026 CAA Graduation Season and International Youth Art Dialogue

On June 1, 2026, Hangzhou played host to the much-anticipated "Grand Tour • 2026 CAA Graduation Season," an event organized by the China Academy of Art (CAA). This prestigious gathering spanned across nine venues in the city, presenting nearly 3,000 graduation works from 2,888 graduates across 20 academic units.

The array of creative outputs from these students reflects the diverse and emerging voices in contemporary art, with a unique emphasis on their personal journeys and cultural backgrounds. This year's theme, "Grand Tour," highlights an essential practice of connecting contemporaries with the world through their artistic endeavors. As young artists traverse their paths, they transform mountains and rivers into classrooms, cultivating understanding of historical and present transformations through immersive experiences.

In conjunction with the graduation festivities, an exciting series known as the International Youth Art Dialogue also kicked off, featuring three significant events: "The Mission of Artistic Education in Light of Global Civilizations," a dialogue among leaders of international art academies; a discussion among young artists; and an expansive international exhibition titled "Art Without Borders." This multifaceted dialogue brought together deans and aspiring artists from over 50 countries, fostering a rich tapestry of exchange and collaboration.

Yu Xuhong, the president of CAA, emphasized the robust academic profile exhibited during the graduation season, with groundbreaking advancements witnessed across various fields. He asserted that artistic creation should not be confined to traditional spaces but should engage directly with the public, allowing for authenticity and real-world relevance.

Since 2009, the CAA has made significant strides in public art displays, setting a precedent among artistic institutions. The 2019 expansion from campus to city marked a pivotal moment in the graduation exhibition's history, solidifying its status as one of China's most influential cultural events. The Grand Tour theme serves as a metaphor for personal exploration, where each participant's journey reflects a broader narrative of cultural understanding and artistic discovery.

The opening ceremony blended creativity with tradition, showcasing a themed presentation entwined with a fashion show that featured around 140 models donning prêt-à-porter collections. A newly composed song, "Grand Tour," encapsulated youthful ideals and aspirations, resonating deeply with attendees and performers alike.

The spirit of the International Youth Art Dialogue aligns seamlessly with the essence of the Grand Tour, intertwining education, creation, research, and exhibition. This platform acts as a bridge for young creators and educators from diverse backgrounds to visualize the future of artistic education and intercultural exchange.

In an increasingly uncertain world, the value of art lies in its power to navigate change, unite hearts, and chart a course through turbulent times. The CAA Graduation exhibition remains an open cultural event, a spiritual manifesto for today’s youth, urging them to view their surroundings as stages of exploration, embracing the grand odyssey of their youth. The exhibition is set to run until June 21, inviting art enthusiasts and the public to witness the burgeoning talent within these young creators.
