TODA BUILDING Launches APK PUBLIC Vol.2: A New Era of Public Art in Tokyo

TODA BUILDING Unveils APK PUBLIC Vol.2: A New Era of Public Art in Tokyo

TODA Construction Co., Ltd. has announced the dates and visual design for its second public art program, APK PUBLIC Vol.2, to be held at their headquarters in Tokyo's Kyobashi area. Running from June 1, 2026, to November 30, 2027, this event will transform the first-floor entrance and plaza, as well as the second-floor corridor of the TODA BUILDING into a vibrant space of creativity and artistic expression.

Event Duration and Concept

The exhibition spans an impressive 548 days, with renowned curator Tomoko Yabumae leading the initiative under the theme "The Becoming City." This concept arises from the notion that a city is always in flux, constantly evolving as communities expand and contract. Featured artists Aiko Tezuka, Asako Fujikura, and Shiori Watanabe will showcase their innovative works during this period, inviting visitors to experience the dynamic shifts that define urban life.

Opening Event

As a precursor to the exhibition, a talk event featuring the curator and participating artists will take place on June 6, 2026. This gathering aims to foster dialogue around the evolving nature of urban spaces and the role of art within them, providing a platform for discussions that inspire new ideas and perspectives.

Visual Design by Natsuko Yoneyama

The visual identity for APK PUBLIC Vol.2 has been crafted by artist Natsuko Yoneyama, who is known for her compelling designs in various installations. Responding to the theme of "The Becoming City," her artistic vision captures the oscillating reality of urban settings, where dreams and fragments intertwine within the city’s layers. Yoneyama's previous work includes notable exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art.

"The image of the city feels somewhat unchanged when thought of from afar, yet wandering through it reveals a constant state of flux. The concept of ‘unfinished’ encompasses both the past and the future, with present moments charged with tension. It symbolizes fragments of dreams caught within the faults of the city," explained Yoneyama, reflecting on her creative process.

APK PUBLIC: A Platform for Artistic Innovation

APK PUBLIC serves as a significant venue for both emerging and established artists to present their work, integrating dynamic public art displays into the communal spaces of TODA BUILDING. This initiative aims to invigorate the daily lives of office workers and city visitors, stimulating creativity and expanding perspectives within the urban environment.
