IREX Welcomes Aleksander Dardeli as New President and CEO
On September 1, 2025, the IREX Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Aleksander (Aleks) Dardeli as their new President and CEO. This pivotal decision comes with great anticipation as Dardeli returns to IREX, bringing with him a visionary approach, substantial experience, and a commitment to lead the organization into its next chapter.
Aleks Dardeli is no stranger to IREX. He previously held the position of Executive Vice President, where he played a significant role in broadening the organization’s global impact. During his tenure, he spearheaded innovative initiatives, enhanced management strategies, and was instrumental in the acquisition of Development Gateway—a venture that aligns with IREX's mission. His experience is further enriched by his recent role as Chief Operating Officer at Save the Children, where he managed strategic planning and performance initiatives.
David A. Gross, Chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed enthusiasm about Dardeli's return, emphasizing his adeptness at steering partnerships through complex landscapes. Gross stated, "Aleks understands how to build strong partnerships and navigate complexity, and we're confident in his ability to lead IREX forward."
In her remarks, Interim CEO Kate Thompson highlighted the fresh enthusiasm that Dardeli's leadership brings to the organization. "With a resilient team of exceptionally talented professionals and strong programs, we look forward to the next chapter under his leadership."
Aleks Dardeli boasts over 25 years of expertise in international development. His career includes senior roles at prominent organizations such as IBI International, DynCorp International/Casals, East-West Management Institute, and the International Development Law Organization. Dardeli's focus has been on education, leadership, and reinforcing both public institutions and the private sector in the U.S., emerging economies, and post-conflict areas. Notably, he spearheaded a significant initiative in Kosovo to prepare governmental institutions for independence.
In addition to his extensive experience, Dardeli is a former Fulbright Scholar. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tirana and holds a master's degree from Columbia University, alongside a Juris Doctor from the Catholic University of America.
In his words, Dardeli emphasized IREX's rich history: "IREX has a rich legacy of transforming education systems, bringing people together to solve problems, and supporting leaders across sectors. I look forward to working with our staff, Board, and supporters worldwide to expand opportunities, shape innovative solutions, and ultimately deliver lasting results for America and the communities we partner with."
