Sift Secures $42 Million Series B Funding
Sift, a company dedicated to developing AI infrastructure for mission-critical machines, has successfully closed a Series B financing round, raising an impressive $42 million. This funding round was spearheaded by StepStone, with notable participation from GV (formerly Google Ventures), Riot Ventures, Fika Ventures, and CIV. As artificial intelligence technology rapidly evolves, the industry observes a crucial transformation from handling textual data to managing and controlling physical machines. Modern technologies such as rockets, satellites, and autonomous vehicles are essentially advanced computers, each generating vast amounts of data from an array of sensors in real-time. With Sift's solution, the company provides a transformative approach by automatically converting raw sensor data into structured, queryable formats suitable for both engineers and AI systems. "We founded Sift because the requisite infrastructure for AI-controlled hardware simply did not exist," notes Sift CEO, Karthik Gollapudi. With a background in developing monitoring systems for SpaceX's rockets, Gollapudi and co-founder Austin Spiegel recognized the significant disparity between software and hardware data infrastructures. This oversight is becoming increasingly critical as companies transition from managing single prototypes to overseeing fleets of machines. Sift is positioned as a unified source of truth across various data formats, including audio, video, logs, and high-frequency telemetry, enabling engineering teams to quickly diagnose issues, validate design functionality against real-world performance, and maintain comprehensive fleet visibility.
In Sift’s vision, the complexity of managing data from hundreds and thousands of machines necessitates a shift towards automated monitoring and observability. Neel Kujur, Co-Founder and CTO of K2 Space, shared insight into their collaborative efforts with Sift. He emphasized that the focus is on building hundreds of satellites to operate simultaneously rather than just one, highlighting the need for a dependable system capable of handling the tremendous amount of generated data. This collaborative insight affirms Sift's role in simplifying operations, automatically identifying discrepancies in telemetry, and closing design loops using real-world data.
Sift’s platform has already earned trust from industry giants including ULA, Astranis, K2 Space, and several undisclosed enterprise defense programs. With the new influx of capital, Sift plans to expand its workforce nearly twofold from its current team of 70 and relocate to a larger office space in Marina Del Rey, having outgrown its previous site in El Segundo.
