CD&R Foundation Unveils $4.5 Million Grants to Support NYC Non-Profits Fostering Economic Growth

In a significant move to bolster economic opportunity in New York City, the CD&R Foundation announced today the distribution of grants amounting to $4.5 million to five selected non-profit organizations. This initiative, set to unfold over the next four years, is aimed at amplifying the Foundation's mission to enhance access to employment and economic mobility for community members.

Since its establishment in 2021, the CD&R Foundation has been proactive in its commitment to promote social equity, having already allocated around $50 million to about 70 different organizations across various regions including New York City, London, and beyond. The recent beneficiaries of these grants are Building Skills NY, The Doe Fund, The Door, Fountain House, and Marcy Lab School, all recognized for their diverse and impactful approaches to addressing barriers in the job market.

Randy Moore, President of the CD&R Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s philosophy that sustainable opportunities require understanding and support over time. He remarked, "These five organizations represent a diverse range of approaches to addressing barriers to employment and economic mobility. We are pleased to welcome them to our New York City network and to support those they serve for years to come."

The selection of these Talent Solution Partners (TSPs) was made in collaboration with the CDR Foundation’s New York Foundation Grants Service Council, comprising both CDR partners and employees. The council, comprised of 15 members, plays a vital role in reviewing applications, interviewing executive leaders of non-profits, and subsequently recommending suitable partners to the Foundation Board of Directors for approval.

Don Gogel, the Chairman of both CDR and the CDR Foundation, underscored the core belief that opportunities should not be constrained by one’s circumstances. Five years post-establishment of the Foundation, his conviction has only strengthened. He noted the dedication of CDR partners and staff members who volunteer their expertise beyond the grants, emphasizing a longstanding commitment to empowering communities.

As highlighted, the grantees each bring unique missions to the table:

  • - Building Skills NY aims to prepare job seekers for construction careers, connecting them with employers and providing necessary training.
  • - The Doe Fund focuses on transforming lives of homeless individuals by providing them with work training, stable housing, and ongoing support.
  • - The Door is dedicated to empowering youth through extensive developmental services in a nurturing environment.
  • - Fountain House promotes community engagement and innovation for those affected by mental illness, fostering healthy, connected lives.
  • - Marcy Lab School seeks to redefine higher education by creating pathways to technology careers for underrepresented young adults, helping them acquire essential skills and networks.

With these recent funding initiatives, the CD&R Foundation is poised to make a significant difference in New York City communities, directly impacting thousands of lives and contributing towards a sustainable, inclusive economic landscape. The Foundation is committed to further details on their efforts and the progress of supported organizations can be found on their official website at www.cdr.com/cdr-foundation.

The spotlight on these non-profits not only highlights their valuable contributions but also showcases the vital role private foundations play in fostering social change and economic opportunity. As the landscape continues to evolve, the CD&R Foundation remains dedicated to nurturing talent, creating sustainable job opportunities, and uplifting communities in need.
