Launching the Green Logistics Decarbonization Initiative for 2023
On May 13, 2023, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced the start of applications for the
Green Logistics Decarbonization Initiative. This program aims to support logistics facilities, including distribution centers, warehouses, and truck terminals, in reducing their carbon footprint. The initiative particularly focuses on promoting the utilization of hydrogen and renewable energy to mitigate environmental impacts linked to the transportation of goods.
Overview of the Initiative
Target Participants for Funding
Eligible participants for these government subsidies include:
- - Warehouse operators
- - Freight transport service providers
- - Cargo handling service providers
- - Truck terminal operators
Eligible Expenses and Subsidy Rates
The initiative provides financial assistance for the installation of facilities related to hydrogen and large-capacity battery systems that harness renewable energy. There are two main areas for which applicants may receive support:
1.
Hydrogen Utilization Initiatives
Expenses related to the installation of hydrogen facilities in logistics environments include equipment for hydrogen production, storage, and refueling, alongside hydrogen fuel cell vehicles designed for logistics purposes.
Subsidy Rate: Up to 50% of expenses, with a maximum grant of 250 million yen.
2.
Renewable Energy Utilization Initiatives
This covers costs related to solar energy facilities, large-capacity batteries, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in logistics operations, as well as electric vehicles intended for logistics use.
Subsidy Rate: Up to 50% of expenses, with a ceiling of 200 million yen.
These initiatives may also encompass advanced technological measures and the necessary equipment for implementing such systems, making this a comprehensive support package for the logistics industry.
