Ontario International Airport's Leap Towards Sustainability

In a major step towards enhancing sustainability, Ontario International Airport (ONT) has recently introduced its first zero-emission electric truck. This new acquisition is a key part of the airport's commitment to operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The unveiling ceremony for this electric truck took place on June 15, 2026, where members of the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) Board of Commissioners gathered to celebrate this milestone. Manufactured locally by ZO Motors USA LLC in Fontana, the truck boasts the airport's logo prominently on all four sides and is designed to facilitate various operational tasks, including logistics and maintenance activities. Additionally, it will support the transport of temperature-sensitive materials, showcasing the truck's versatility.

Alan D. Wapner, president of the OIAA Board, expressed pride in this initiative, highlighting that it not only aligns with the airport’s sustainability goals but also significantly enhances daily operations. He remarked, "This is a smart investment that aligns with our commitment to sustainability while enhancing our day-to-day operations." This acquisition reflects ONT's broader strategy to incorporate innovative technology into its operations while meeting the increasing demands of its growing customer base.

The funding for this electric vehicle comes from a grant agreement with San Bernardino County, illustrating a collaborative effort to promote green initiatives in the area. Other initiatives at Ontario International Airport include utilizing reclaimed water for irrigation and encouraging airport partners to use cleaner operational equipment.
