2026 Global Energy Prize Shortlist Announcement



On June 10, 2026, the Global Energy Association unveiled the eagerly awaited shortlist for the Global Energy Prize 2026. This distinction is one of the most respected awards in the field of energy sciences. The finalists hail from nine countries, including Chile, China, Cyprus, India, Mexico, Russia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The creation of this shortlist marks the conclusion of the second phase of the nomination process. This rigorous process began on January 1 and concluded on April 20, 2026, attracting nominations from representatives across 30 countries and territories. A total of 15 nominees emerged from an impressive pool of candidates representing 28 different nations. These nominees have been shortlisted in three categories: Traditional Energy, Non-Traditional Energy, and New Ways of Energy Application.

In the next phase, a prestigious international committee, headed by Nobel Prize laureate Rae Kwon Chung, will select the awardees. Chung expressed his optimism about the shortlisted projects, stating, "This year's shortlist reflects the vast range of modern energy science. I am confident that many of the submitted projects will significantly influence the development of the global energy sector in the coming decade. My congratulations go out to all scientists listed on the shortlist for this honor."

Traditional Energy:
1. Yilu Liu (USA) - Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee.
2. Amit Goyal (USA) - Founding Director of the RENEW Institute at SUNY Buffalo.
3. Haisheng Chen (China) - Director of the Institute of Technical Thermophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
4. Jorge Ancheyta-Juarez (Mexico) - Professor at the National Polytechnic Institute.
5. Alexander Batanov (Russia) - Head and Chief Designer at a special construction office focused on robotics.

Non-Traditional Energy:
1. Bhim Singh (India) - Emeritus Professor at IIT Delhi.
2. Soteris Kalogirou (Cyprus) - Professor at Cyprus University of Technology.
3. Yushan Yan (USA) - Director of the Clean Hydrogen Center at the University of Delaware.
4. Josep M. Guerrero (China) - Researcher at the Center for Renewable Energy and Microgrids at Zhejiang University.
5. José H. Zagal Moya (Chile) - Emeritus Professor and head of the Electrocatalysis Laboratory at the University of Santiago de Chile.

New Ways of Energy Application:
1. Johann W. Kolar (Switzerland) - Emeritus Professor at ETH Zurich.
2. Jun Liu (USA) - Director of the Battery500 Consortium Innovation Center at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
3. Yulong Ding (UK) - Chamberlain Chair in Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
4. William A. Goddard (USA) - Director of Material and Process Simulation at Caltech.
