Grillo's Pickles to Construct $54 Million Manufacturing Plant in Indiana

Grillo's Pickles Expands Operations with New Facility

Grillo's Pickles, the beloved pickle brand known for its tagline "Chill Out, Eat a Pickle," has officially announced plans to establish a $54 million food manufacturing plant in Bartholomew County, Indiana. The new facility, which spans 155,000 square feet, is strategically located near Columbus, Indiana, along the I-65 corridor and aims to satisfy the increasing national demand for its unique and fresh products.

A Strategic Move for Grillo's Pickles

The groundbreaking for the new factory was recently held, with officials expressing their excitement about the expansion. Joe Leonardo, Vice President of Strategic Operations for Irresistible Foods Group (IFG), highlighted that the planning phase considered gradual growth right from the purchase of the site. Grillo's Pickles is part of the Irresistible Foods Group, which also includes the renowned KING'S HAWAIIAN bakery operation that is nearby.

“Our pickles are crafted using a vintage family recipe and contain no artificial preservatives,” stated Adam Kaufman, President and CEO of Grillo's Pickles. “Finding a central U.S. location with a well-trained workforce and a supportive business environment was crucial for us, and we are thrilled to set up in Bartholomew County.”

Local Government Support

The local government has been highly supportive of this significant investment. Bartholomew County officials previously committed approximately $3.7 million from various funds to enhance infrastructure such as water and sewer systems, as well as road improvements around the project site. They also approved a 10-year property tax phase-in, generating an estimated $1.2 million in savings for Grillo's.

“Bartholomew County is dedicated to elevating and diversifying our economy. We're excited to welcome Grillo's as a vital element of our strategy to attract food manufacturing businesses,” remarked County Commissioner Tony London.

This sentiment was echoed by Kristen Goecker, Interim President of the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corporation. She remarked, “Grillo's Pickles is well-known for its innovative products and creative marketing. It's a perfect match for a community that values originality and has a highly skilled manufacturing workforce.”

Enhancing Infrastructure

Further supporting the initiative, the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corporation has been engaged in securing up to $1 million in state funds to improve local roadways, enhancing access to the new facility located in the Taylorsville Industrial Park.

County Council president Leah Beyer praised the collaborative efforts from various local entities to make this project a reality, stating, “Economic development is a team effort, and everyone has cooperated effectively to support Grillo's expansion.”

State Support for Job Creation

On top of local government backing, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation has promised up to $1.4 million in incentive-based tax credits contingent on job creation and investment levels met by Grillo’s expansion plans.
