Okayama University Hosts Information Session on EPOK
On April 15, 2026, Okayama University in Okayama City, Japan, held an information session regarding its Exchange Program Okayama (EPOK) for students interested in studying abroad. This initiative focuses on encouraging students from all faculties to expand their learning experiences globally.
The session kicked off with an inspiring talk from Associate Professor Junko Obayashi from the Graduate School of Education, who emphasized the importance of self-reflection for students considering a study abroad opportunity. She proposed that writing down their goals in English could lead to new insights and deepen their understanding of what they hope to gain from the experience. Professor Obayashi expressed her commitment to supporting the EPOK participants throughout their journey.
The EPOK program allows students to be dispatched to one of the 65 partner universities by April 2026. During the session, 44 students from various faculties gathered to learn more about the EPOK structure and application process, as explained by staff from the International Education Promotion Section.
EPOK Overview
The EPOK program is designed for students from all academic disciplines, and it aims to enhance educational opportunities by fostering international exchange. Participants can benefit from exposure to different cultures, educational systems, and global perspectives, which ultimately contribute to personal and professional development.
Insight from Returning Students
Following the introduction to the program, a report session was held where eight students who previously participated in EPOK shared their experiences. They detailed the preparations leading to their departure, the courses taken at their host institutions, dormitory life, and the cost of living in their respective countries. Their insights provided valuable practical information for prospective EPOK participants, showcasing the diverse experiences that studying abroad can offer.
One student recounted their challenges and triumphs, highlighting the language barriers faced and how they navigated adapting to new educational environments. Another student expressed how the experience enriched their academic focus and broadened their professional outlook.
Future Opportunities
