Jewish National Fund-USA Commits $1 Million to Be'er Sheva
In light of the ongoing crisis facing the residents of Be'er Sheva, located in southern Israel, Jewish National Fund-USA (JNF-USA) has made a significant emergency response commitment of $1 million. This initiative is part of the organization's longstanding relationship with the city, where they have invested millions annually to support community development and resilience.
The recent challenge faced by Be'er Sheva arose from destructive attacks, notably involving Iranian ballistic missiles that have caused great distress among the local population. Understanding the gravity of the situation, JNF-USA has mobilized resources and volunteers from its Alexander Muss High School in Israel, which has transformed into a logistics and support hub. Over 1,400 residents, who have been directly affected by the violence, are receiving much-needed assistance.
Community Response and Aid Initiatives
The Jewish National Fund-USA's response includes providing essential services to displaced individuals, including the distribution of clothing, meals, and medical support. Moreover, they have established activities for children and even allowed families to bring their pets to safety. President Deb Lust Zaluda emphasized the organization's emotional connection to the residents of Be'er Sheva, stating, "They are our family. We have worked with them for decades, investing millions to make their city one of the fastest-growing in the country. No one knows them like us."
To break down the initiatives funded by the $1 million commitment:
- - Supporting Families: JNF-USA is providing direct support to families with wounded soldiers at Soroka Hospital.
- - Mobile Command Center: Establishment of a crucial mobile command and logistics center to address the urgent needs of the community.
- - Food & Emergency Kits: They are organizing food distributions and emergency kits for families and older adults.
- - Russian-Language Hotlines: A hotline has been launched to assist isolated seniors, offering them a way to communicate and access resources.
- - Childcare Services: Daycare services for hospital staff's children are also part of the support, alongside leading various art therapy sessions to help evacuees cope with trauma.
In addition, JNF-USA has facilitated training for building-level emergency management to prepare residents and municipal staff for future crises. From the first online session with thirty participants, this initiative shows promise in boosting community readiness and resilience.
Child-Centric Initiatives and Community Engagement
The organization has expanded its efforts to include child-friendly spaces, such as playrooms for families confined indoors, and has organized educational activities within bomb shelters. These efforts are crucial not only for immediate relief but for community bonding and emotional support during such trying times. The organization has also created safe spaces for toddlers in public parks to ensure that families can gather and find solace amid chaos.
JNF-USA Chairman, Dr. Sol Lizerbram, reinforced the organization’s dedication to Be'er Sheva by affirming that, "Be'er Sheva is more than just a city—it's a shining example of Israel's strength, resilience, and pioneering spirit. From the very first hours of this emergency, as missiles fell, we were there, ready to support the urgent needs of the people. Those affected must know they are not alone."
Ongoing Commitment and Future Engagement
This emergency funding comes on the heels of a broader commitment by JNF-USA to secure the future of Israel’s border regions. Through prior initiatives, they have already provided hundreds of bomb shelters and trauma support, along with funding for emergency fire and rescue equipment throughout various provinces.
Looking ahead, JNF-USA is set to showcase its impactful initiatives at the Global Conference for Israel in Hollywood, Florida, scheduled for October 23-26. This conference aims to enlighten attendees about how they can contribute to meaningful change and support the resilience of communities like Be'er Sheva.
