Midea Leads the Way in Sustainable HVAC at IFA 2026

At the recent IFA 2026 event held in Berlin, Midea reaffirmed its status as a leading innovative force in the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) sector by unveiling its latest environmentally-friendly solutions. With a guiding principle of "Green Vision, Blue Future," Midea has consistently focused on sustainable development and energy efficiency in its product offerings.

Revolutionizing HVAC with R290

For 16 consecutive years, Midea has been the world's premier manufacturer of air conditioning units utilizing R290, a natural refrigerant that significantly reduces the environmental impact typically associated with HVAC systems. This refrigerant has an extremely low Global Warming Potential (GWP), negligible CO₂ emissions, and contains no harmful PFAS substances, which makes it a sustainable choice. Customers can expect approximately a 10% boost in energy efficiency with R290.

During the event, Midea showcased a transparent model that allowed attendees to observe the internal workings of this eco-friendly technology, highlighting the intersection of environmental responsibility and high performance. Since 2018, Midea has sold over 10 million R290 air conditioning units globally, leading to a reduction of approximately 5.2 million tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions. This impact is akin to the carbon absorption capacity of 6.2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest.

Innovative Products on Display

Among the highlighted innovations were the H-Pack, an indoor heat pump developed by Midea's European R&D team, and PortaSplit, an air conditioning system designed for easy installation within European interiors. The H-Pack is compact and requires no outdoor unit, alleviating noise and space concerns for homeowners while ensuring ease of installation and maintenance. Additionally, it features remote diagnostics that help technicians troubleshoot issues without the need for on-site visits, thus reducing maintenance costs.

PortaSplit is engineered for high performance and quiet operation, minimizing installation expenses while providing optimal indoor comfort. Notably, PortaSplit is set to incorporate the R290 refrigerant in 2027, underlining Midea's commitment to sustainable technology.

The recently launched VitaBreeze air conditioner won the IFA 2026 Innovation Technology Award, thanks to its smart air flow management capabilities facilitated by the "AirGrid" technology. This feature maps out room layouts and allows users to control air circulation visually via a smartphone, enhancing customizable comfort.

Intelligent Energy Management Solutions

Midea also introduced Raynor Pro, a premium heating solution designed for harsh Nordic climates, capable of maintaining full heating power even at temperatures as low as -40°C. It boasts an A+++ energy efficiency classification for both heating and cooling modes, earning an iF Design Award for its original design by Midea’s team in Milan.

Completing the array of sustainable solutions was MHELIOS, a home energy management system that optimizes energy storage and consumption based on dynamic pricing. This system integrates electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, solar installations, and battery storage, promoting the usage of clean energy sources while maintaining homeowner comfort.
