Wynn Macau Presents the Rich Sino-Portuguese Heritage of Macau in Madrid

Wynn Macau Showcases the Sino-Portuguese Heritage of Macau in Madrid

From April 17 to 21, 2026, the Plaza Puente del Rey in Madrid transformed into a rich showcase of Macau's cultural heritage through the 'Experience Macao' roadshow, curated by the Macao Government Tourism Office. This five-day tourism exhibition featured four major display areas along with 20 stands, offering visitors a taste of Macau through vibrant light installations, cultural performances, and culinary delights.

Among the highlights was an impressive exhibition of Jingdezhen porcelain, which had originally been displayed at Wynn Macau and was adapted for this event to provide European audiences with a direct glimpse into the historical depth and craftsmanship of Chinese pottery.

Dating back to 1603, this 'Kraak porcelain' left Macau on Portuguese merchant ships, marking one of Europe's earliest cultural exchanges with China. Centuries later, this porcelain served as a bridge between cultures, with the immersive light-and-shadow exhibition bringing the past into conversation with a contemporary audience.

Beyond the exhibition, Wynn Macau has often utilized its platform to introduce Jiangxi’s culture and products to an international crowd, showcasing local delicacies such as fried tofu from Xiushui and sweet potato noodles from Nancheng. The collaboration with artists from Macau in creating porcelain-inspired cultural products illustrated the shared legacy.

Linda Chen, President of Wynn Macau, emphasized, “Macau is a vital showcase for intercultural exchange, and we want to leverage it to present Chinese culture to an international audience. We aim for visitors from all over the world to discover the beauty of traditional Chinese culture in Macau, inspiring them to explore both Macau and Jiangxi, promoting a true ’one city, two destinations’ travel concept.”

The Madrid roadshow also included an on-site reception area and a series of interactive tourist experiences related to Macau. Attendees could try their hand at drumming in a lion dance experience zone or dress up in traditional Chinese wedding attire, known as Qun Kwa, for pictures. A traditional teahouse offered dim sum delicacies and sugar painting demonstrations, while racing enthusiasts could experience the Guia Circuit through a simulation presented by the Macau Grand Prix Museum. Furthermore, visitors were able to explore nine different travel routes in Macau via immersive virtual reality installations.

Chen stated, “We want to utilize Macau’s unique Chinese and Western heritage—its historical architecture and intangible cultural traditions—to create stronger connections with visitors in Spain and across Europe. Our goal is to cultivate a sustainable interest in Macau as a cultural tourism destination that extends beyond individual campaigns or promotions.”

Given Spain’s global reputation for its culinary culture, the roadshow acted as a platform to enhance Macau's appeal as a travel destination. The exhibition highlighted luxury accommodations, Michelin-starred restaurants, and diverse tourist offerings that allow international visitors to experience Macau’s cultural tourism offer firsthand.

Chen concluded, “We will continue to leverage the multi-destination routes of the Greater Bay Area to deepen regional tourism relationships. Concurrently, we will bolster the strategic collaboration between Hengqin and Macau to promote a tighter coordination of travel offers, shared visitor points, and a greater integration of destinations. As we further enrich our cultural travel portfolio, we remain committed to presenting Chinese culture to the international audience in a way that is engaging and accessible for global travelers.”
