NEDHSA's Lincoln Parish NED Talk Road Tour Launches Interactive Substance Abuse Awareness in Grambling, LA

NEDHSA Launches Lincoln Parish NED Talk Road Tour

The Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) is set to host the Lincoln Parish NED Talk Road Tour on April 23, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:40 PM at Lincoln Preparatory School in Grambling, Louisiana. This initiative aims to tackle significant social issues, particularly underage drinking and substance abuse.

Overview of the Event

The NED Talk Road Tour is a proactive outreach program designed to address crucial elements that influence substance use and mental health within communities. With the active participation of Lincoln Parish students and educators, the event will facilitate age-appropriate discussions regarding addiction, alcohol prevention, resilience, and making healthy life choices.

The afternoon begins with a workshop led by Dr. Martha Phillips, focusing on aspects such as tobacco-free living and strategies to prevent prescription drug misuse. Following this engagement, students will participate in a unique interactive simulation that allows them to experience alcohol impairment. They will don vision-impaired goggles while navigating a maze, enabling them to grasp the challenges faced under the influence of alcohol.

Key Goals and Expected Outcomes

One of the primary objectives of this Road Tour is to boost awareness about the risks linked to substance use. Organizers expect students will gain a better understanding of protective factors supporting mental wellness, improving community ties among schools, families, and local prevention resources. The program also aspires to equip youth with practical skills to make informed decisions while promoting a collaborative community framework that enhances long-term health and wellness efforts.

Crystal Washington, Principal at Lincoln Preparatory School, emphasized the impact of the event, stating, "This activity signifies a vital investment in our community's future. By uniting students, families, and local leaders, we are reinforcing the foundation for healthier choices and positive outcomes." Similarly, Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, Executive Director of NEDHSA, highlighted the initiative's aim to engage young individuals in meaningful dialogues that foster prevention and positive youth development. "Such conversations are essential for cultivating resilience and promoting healthier communities across the Northeast Delta," he asserted.

Engagement and Participation

This event welcomes students from Lincoln Preparatory Schools, aiming to foster dialogue and discussions centered on key youth issues. Participants will not only gain knowledge but will also contribute to building a supportive environment, ultimately emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness and substance abuse prevention.
