Gstar Subic in the Philippines Launches Its First High-Efficiency N-Type Module
Gstar Subic's Milestone: The First N-Type Module
On May 12, 2025, Gstar's production facility in Subic, Philippines, officially commenced operations with the launch of its first N-Type solar module. This event marks a significant advancement in the solar manufacturing industry in the Philippines and exemplifies Gstar's commitment to producing high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) modules.
The newly produced N-Type module boasts advanced technology, incorporating 183.75mm N-type cells enclosed in a bifacial double-glass format. This configuration utilizes techniques like non-destructive laser scribing and SMBB (Super Multi Busbar) technology, ensuring enhanced performance and durability. By optimizing the spacing between cells and maximizing the active area, this module achieves a peak power output of 595 W and an impressive efficiency rating of 23.03%. These enhancements contribute to improved bifaciality, lower temperature coefficients, and superior performance in low-light conditions, making it a top competitor in its class.
Designed for commercial, industrial use, and large-scale solar power plants, the N-Type module promises higher system power output and reduced Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), thereby addressing the growing global demand for high-efficiency solar solutions.
Automation and Efficiency in Production
The manufacturing processes in the Gstar Subic facility are fully automated, integrating factors like safety, stability, and intelligence right from the design phase. This comprehensive multi-dimensional optimization has led to the development of an intelligent, integrated factory characterized by high safety standards, automation, low energy consumption, and high compatibility. The facility supports flexible type-switching between module variations without sacrificing performance or increasing costs, facilitating the large-scale production of high-efficiency modules.
With the successful completion of its initial phase, which includes 1-GW modules and 1.5-GW cells, Gstar plans to accelerate the development of a second phase with a 2-GW module project. This endeavor aims to establish a leading and reliable center for the PV industry in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
Compliance and International Standards
The factory has achieved critical international certifications, including ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management, and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. These certifications not only validate the factory’s adherence to global standards but also bolster Gstar's credibility and transparency in operations. Furthermore, Gstar is proactively pursuing the registration process for the D-U-N-S® number to enhance its international reputation and credibility.
Production is expected to ramp up with mass production starting on May 18, 2025. This initiative aims to fill the gap in the Philippine PV module market by introducing advanced production capabilities that will elevate the local solar industry and offer a more diverse supply chain option to the global market.
Strengthening Global Presence and Competitiveness
The Philippines is experiencing steady growth in installed solar capacity as part of its national energy plan for 2020–2040, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy to over 35% by 2030 and over 50% by 2040. Gstar's establishment and operation of the Subic factory will significantly contribute to these ambitious targets.
Employing a global strategic “1+N” model, Gstar extends its business operations across various regions including the USA, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, the UAE, and Egypt. The successful launch of the Philippines site serves as a milestone in solidifying Gstar’s international presence and enhancing its competitiveness in the global solar market.
Upcoming Presentation at Solar Storage Live
As Gstar accelerates its local production efforts, it is also deepening collaborations with global partners. At the upcoming Solar Storage Live Philippines on May 19-20, Gstar will present its comprehensive PV supply chain and system solutions at booth 1-AA29. Stakeholders, partners, and clients are invited to engage in discussions about the latest trends and opportunities in the solar industry.
Gstar Subic's groundbreaking efforts signal a new era in solar module production for the Philippines and reflect a commitment to innovation and sustainability in response to the evolving energy landscape.
