AccessLex Institute Partners with Equal Justice Works
The AccessLex Institute®, recognized as the largest nonprofit in legal education, recently announced an impactful partnership with
Equal Justice Works, an organization dedicated to public service legal careers. This collaboration aims to propel the initiatives of the
Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Coalition, a program designed to assist public service professionals in alleviating their student loan burdens.
As part of this alliance, AccessLex commits to providing both grant funding and operational support to Equal Justice Works, which will play a pivotal role in managing the coalition’s activities. The PSLF Coalition is a collective of over 100 organizations united to advocate for enhanced education, accessibility, and awareness of the PSLF program, which has been pivotal in shaping the landscape of public service careers since its inception.
Nancy Conneely, Managing Director of Policy at AccessLex Institute, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the importance of educating borrowers regarding the PSLF program. She stated, “We are excited to partner with Equal Justice Works to harness the strength of the Coalition and its membership to educate more borrowers about the program.” The partnership aims to not only inform but also to influence policymakers to protect and enhance this critical program.
The PSLF program, established in 2007 but gaining traction with eligibility in 2017, provides opportunities for public service professionals to achieve loan forgiveness after ten years of qualifying work. With a decade of advocacy under its belt, AccessLex Institute remains a staunch promoter of improving the PSLF program. Conneely added, “For over a decade, AccessLex has championed the improvement of the PSLF program to ensure borrowers have the opportunity for the forgiveness they deserve.”
The initiative becomes even more essential as it seeks to increase public service resources within under-resourced communities, thereby improving access to necessary services such as healthcare, legal representation, and quality education. Conneely highlighted the urgency of ensuring the program remains viable for future generations, stating, “It is crucial to ensure the program remains available as a pathway to enhance the public services in our communities.”
Beyond this partnership, AccessLex Institute continues its tradition of supporting aspiring lawyers. With a focus on advocacy and education, AccessLex not only provides crucial information to borrowers but also serves as a powerful advocate for young legal professionals navigating their careers.
Since its founding in 1983, AccessLex has been at the forefront of improving access to legal education and has significantly contributed to student support initiatives, accumulating over
$26.4 million in grants since 2014 alone. The organization’s commitment to empowering the next generation of lawyers is showcased through its various policy and advocacy initiatives aimed at enhancing the educational landscape.
