BusRight Secures $30 Million to Transform Student Transportation System

BusRight, a frontrunner in the all-in-one student transportation technology space, has successfully raised over $30 million in a funding round led by Volition Capital. This significant financial boost is aimed at revolutionizing the infrastructure of the $900 billion K-12 education ecosystem, which plays a vital role in the daily commutes of over 20 million students across the nation.

Founded by CEO Keith Corso and Chief Product Officer Phillip Dunn, BusRight's platform is designed to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing school transportation today. The company aims to address challenges such as a prevailing shortage of school bus drivers, skyrocketing parent expectations, and increasingly intricate routing requirements. By consolidating solutions for driver navigation, route planning, student visibility, parent communication, and real-time GPS tracking into one easy-to-use platform, BusRight significantly enhances operational efficiency for transportation leaders.

On a typical day, many school bus fleets face an unexpected deficiency in driver availability, with as much as 30% of drivers not showing up. This leads to abrupt cancellations, a surge of concerned parent calls, and logistical nightmares for transportation departments, forcing them to operate under extreme pressure. Meanwhile, many bus drivers are still managing paper route sheets, unable to leverage modern technology, while transportation leaders find themselves spending excessive hours behind the wheel instead of fulfilling leadership roles.

BusRight aims to transform these outdated practices and bring the country's vast mass transit system into the digital age. Nearly one million stakeholders, including parents, drivers, dispatchers, and superintendents across 36 states, utilize BusRight's technology, which plays a vital role in restoring trust within the public education sector.

Gregory Mott, the Superintendent for the Poughkeepsie City School District, shared, "BusRight has saved us $989,000 in the first year. I can't think of another tool in the district that has had such a profound impact on student safety while also strengthening the financial position of the school." This indicates the platform’s wide-reaching impact and its necessity in nurturing safer educational environments.

Acknowledging that student transportation teams have long been overlooked and underfunded, CEO Keith Corso expressed his pride in partnering with Volition Capital. He emphasized that everyone involved in the transportation sector deserves proper acknowledgment and resources to match the significance of their work.

With this new funding, BusRight plans to introduce advanced features on its platform, including a 24/7 AI-powered transportation agent, highly localized mapping intelligence, and NFC-based child safety options. Phillip Dunn, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, noted how his firsthand experience in education revealed the pressing need for improved tools, saying, "BusRight exists to unlock public infrastructure with the same ease and impact we expect from modern consumer technology."

In conjunction with this funding initiative, Tomy Han from Volition Capital will join BusRight's Board of Directors. Han remarked, "BusRight is building a category-defining platform in a market that is both vast and mission-critical. The team has demonstrated exceptional execution and strong customer adoption. We are enthusiastic about collaborating with BusRight as they scale their transformative business."

The growth seen by BusRight coincides with a phase of rapid evolution in student transportation. This change is propelled by newly enacted regulations, increased funding for technology integration, and the growing importance of student safety, visibility, and operational excellence.
