Tokyo Consortium Accelerates Green Transformation Focused on Startups

Tokyo's Commitment to Green Transformation

In the face of severe climate change, the city of Tokyo recognizes the pressing need to act swiftly. Effects of shifting climates are increasingly apparent in the daily lives of citizens, making immediate response critical. The Tokyo government believes that accelerating society-wide Green Transformation (GX) efforts requires not just the promotion of existing decarbonization technologies but also support for innovative startups that can contribute significantly to achieving zero emissions.

Since the fiscal year 2022, the Tokyo government has been providing focused assistance to promising startups in the green sector through the "Startup Ecosystem Tokyo Consortium." Recent announcements have revealed a new selection of startups to benefit from this program.

Understanding the Tokyo Consortium

The Startup Ecosystem Tokyo Consortium is a collective of players within the startup ecosystem based in Tokyo and its surrounding areas. Its goals are to establish Tokyo's global position in this ecosystem, enhance international competitiveness, encourage the creation and growth of startups, and ultimately contribute to the sustainable economic development of the city. Additionally, the consortium aims to implement innovation into society and promote activities that give back to the local community.

To achieve these goals, the consortium focuses on fostering its ecosystem and providing support for startups through collaboration among industry, academia, and government sectors.
