Valmet Expands Its Presence in China with New Pulp Mill Technology Delivery

Valmet's New Partnership with Shandong Sun Paper

Valmet, a global leader in process technologies, has announced an exciting collaboration with Shandong Sun Paper for the delivery of crucial pulp mill technology to its new Yandian pulp mill in the Shandong province of China. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to significantly boost the region's pulp production capabilities.

Cutting-Edge Technology Delivery

The scope of Valmet’s delivery is extensive, encompassing a cooking and fiberline, a recovery boiler, and ash crystallization systems. These elements play critical roles in ensuring efficient production processes while maintaining high environmental standards. Additionally, the project features advanced analyzers, measurements for the fiberline, and safety optimization systems for the recovery boiler, which further enhance operational safety and efficiency.

Scheduled to commence operations in the last quarter of 2026, the Yandian pulp mill aims to produce an impressive 600,000 tonnes of pulp annually. This collaborative effort highlights Valmet's commitment to supporting its partner’s ambitious goals in sustainable production.

A Proven Track Record

Zehua Liu, General Manager at Sun Paper, expressed confidence in Valmet’s capabilities, noting their previous successful collaborations. “Valmet has been a trusted partner for our recent chemical pulp lines, ensuring high availability and efficient raw material usage,” Liu remarked. This marks the third cooking and fiberline delivery from Valmet to Sun Paper since 2020, demonstrating a strong and ongoing partnership between the two companies.

Innovative Design and Guidance

Sami Riekkola, Valmet's Business Area Executive Vice President, emphasized the innovative aspects of the project. “With our local presence in China and our competitive technology solutions, we are well-equipped to meet the challenges posed by a tight project schedule,” he stated. The integration of advanced technologies aims not only at enhancing production efficiency but also at adhering to stringent environmental regulations.

The cooking and fiberline setup will utilize Valmet’s Continuous Cooking technology, optimizing energy and raw material consumption, while the recovery boiler is designed for long operating periods, allowing for less frequent maintenance. Such advancements are critical in reducing the mill’s environmental impact.
