Chery TIGGO9 SUV Models Showcase Impressive Safety Features in Collision Test

Chery TIGGO9 SUV Models Showcase Impressive Safety Attributes

On August 20, two flagship models of the Chery TIGGO9 SUV participated in a significant frontal collision test with a 50% offset at a speed of 50 km/h on a long, paved road in South Africa. This critical evaluation aims to assess the SUV's safety performance under challenging conditions.

The results were striking. The cabins of both TIGGO9 vehicles remained completely intact, showing no deformation in pillars A, B, and C. All airbags, including driver, passenger, and knee airbags, deployed instantly at the moment of impact. Additionally, the seatbelt pre-tensioners were activated promptly, and all doors opened normally after the collision, with emergency lights automatically turning on and no fuel leakage reported.

The structure of the TIGGO9 consists of 85% high-strength steel, including 21% made of hot-rolled steel in critical areas such as pillars A and B, which has a tensile strength of 1500 MPa. The front design includes dual aluminum bumpers that reinforce 85% of the vehicle's width and six crash boxes that effectively absorb and distribute impact energy. Moreover, the vehicle is equipped with ten airbags, which include side curtain airbags that maintain pressure above 50% for six seconds post-deployment and a central airbag between the front seats to mitigate secondary impact risks.

This collision test marks a vital milestone in Chery's six-dimensional global safety challenge, following tests conducted in extreme conditions in regions like Indonesia and Mexico. As the first Chinese automotive manufacturer to exceed five million units exported, Chery found its name listed in the Fortune Global 500 for the second consecutive month last month. This achievement reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to global quality—assuring customers that no matter where these vehicles are driven, their fundamental safety design remains as durable as a diamond.

This testing not only fulfills the vision of “Five-Star Protection for Everyone” but also embodies the brand’s core philosophy of “Safety for Families.”

On the same evening, the TIGGO9 officially made its debut in the South African market. The following day, Chery partnered with UNICEF to launch the “Promoting Education in Africa” forum, marking the beginning of collaborative efforts to address educational challenges faced by children in the region. As part of this initiative, plans were unveiled to fund the construction of Hope Primary Schools, reinforcing Chery’s ethos of “In Africa, For Africa” by expanding its commitment to safety in product technology alongside social responsibility.
