This June, Minnesota will transform into a vibrant hub of celebration, welcoming nearly 3,000 athletes from all 50 states for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Highlighting the spirit of inclusion and sportsmanship, the event promises to be both accessible and exciting, drawing in fans from all walks of life. One of the key features of this year’s games is the introduction of three Fan Zones strategically located across the Twin Cities and Blaine, designed to immerse fans in the festivities beyond just watching the competitions.
Thrivent Fan Fest at the University of Minnesota
Kicking off the celebrations, the Thrivent Fan Fest at the University of Minnesota will open its doors from June 21st to June 25th. This Fan Zone will span 50,000 square feet outside the Huntington Bank Stadium, serving as a dynamic gathering space for fans. The festival will be buzzing with live music, art, and interactive experiences, setting the perfect atmosphere for celebrating the athletes.
Performances will take place daily on the Sanford Health Center Stage, featuring a lineup filled with both regional and national talent, including popular acts like the Minneapolis Funk All Stars and the talented Kat Perkins. Additionally, members of the intellectual disabilities community will also showcase their music, reminding everyone of the heart behind the Games.
Over 30 partner organizations, like Accenture and Bank of America, will engage fans with interactive activities. From a 'Bubble Factory' powered by fan-driven bubble machines to custom photo experiences, the festival invites participation at every turn. A curated marketplace, the ID Makers Market will also showcase handcrafted goods from the intellectual disabilities community, highlighting and celebrating inclusive creativity.
Fredrikson Fan Zone at National Sports Center, Blaine
Meanwhile, the Fredrikson Fan Zone at the National Sports Center in Blaine will be open from June 22nd to 25th, giving a joyful and family-friendly environment for fans to enjoy while witnessing five sports competitions. With local food trucks, DJ-led dance areas, and numerous interactive experiences, this Fan Zone ensures a day packed with fun and excitement, all while keeping fans close to the action on the fields.
Furthermore, the Young Athletes Festival on June 22nd and June 24th will cater specifically to families with children aged 2-7, offering engaging play-based activities in a dedicated sensory area for an accessible experience for all.
