NSK's Participation in the 2026 Yokohama Automotive Technology Exhibition
NSK Ltd., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, will participate in the 2026 Yokohama Automotive Technology Exhibition, to be held at Pacifico Yokohama from May 27 to May 29, 2026. This annual event is one of Japan's largest automotive technology shows, where various automobile manufacturers and parts makers showcase their innovations to an audience predominantly composed of engineers and researchers from the automotive and mobility sectors, with students and representatives from research institutions also in attendance. In the previous event in 2025, over 617 companies participated, drawing in approximately 80,000 visitors.
NSK's theme for this year's exhibition is "Mobilizing Tomorrow Today," emphasizing the company's commitment to advancing electrification and automation in driving, steering, and braking functions, alongside solutions to address labor shortages through advanced humanoid robotics.
Key Exhibits from NSK
Electric Corner Module Concept
One of the highlight exhibits is the electric corner module, which integrates electric suspension, rear-wheel steering actuators, and electric mechanical brakes. This concept model is designed to enable flexible vehicle layouts essential for the future of mobility. NSK aims to promote innovation in this area by providing ball screws, locking clutches, and low-friction hub unit bearings applicable to these electric actuators.
Ultra-Narrow Hub Unit Bearing
Notably, NSK will unveil the world's first ultra-narrow hub unit bearing. As mobility shapes evolve, there is a pressing need for this bearing to maintain three critical functions: driving, steering, and braking, while minimizing spatial requirements. This design allows for the inclusion of larger, more powerful in-wheel motors, consequently increasing the vehicle's turning angle for better maneuverability.
Selectable One-Way Clutch
Another innovative product on display is a selectable one-way clutch with high engagement reliability. This mode-switching clutch adds a two-way free mode, maintaining high reliability for PHEV and HEV direct connection clutches, while enhancing system efficiency.
E-Axle Solutions
For eAxle applications, NSK will present a conductive bypass plate and a resin-molded bearing, addressing the challenges of electric corrosion as motors increase output and high voltage. The solutions combine conductive and insulating approaches to enhance reliability in eAxle components.
Steering Reactions with Foldable Electric Columns
As autonomous driving technology advances, indoor vehicle space utilization and new interfaces are essential. NSK's foldable electric tilt telescope steering reaction device integrates a steering wheel storage feature to expand driver visibility while allowing for swift and smooth operations.
Locking Clutch for Rear-Wheel Steering
This product offers a high power transmission efficiency along with a reliable locking mechanism without requiring power, thus aiding in the miniaturization and efficiency of rear-wheel steering actuators.
Electric Hydraulic Brake Ball Screws
The electric hydraulic brakes exhibit high reliability due to the use of newly developed materials. By integrating the circulation parts and nuts, NSK contributes to reducing the size and weight of braking systems while maintaining high responsiveness and control, catering to the evolving demands of autonomous and electric vehicles.
Electric Suspension Ball Screws
A cutting-edge concept for electric suspension emphasizes comfort and vehicle stability. Using ball screw technology, NSK proposes a next-generation suspension that ensures optimal response and control, meeting the diverse needs of modern vehicles.
Humanoid Robotics Products
Moreover, NSK is introducing a range of products for humanoid robots, responding to the increasing demand for automation across diverse fields. With requirements for high precision and reliability, NSK's offerings include rotary and linear actuators designed for robot motion, as well as a bilateral gear unit that enhances dexterity and efficiency in robotic arms.
