DeNA Adopts Dynatrace for AI-Driven Operational Enhancements
In a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency using artificial intelligence (AI), DeNA Corporation has announced the adoption of Dynatrace's observability platform. By leveraging this advanced solution, DeNA aims to improve monitoring and incident investigation processes for two of its key service systems.
The Need for Unified Operational Data
DeNA is committed to an "AI All-In" approach, focusing on increasing productivity, strengthening competitiveness in existing businesses, and fostering the creation of new ventures through AI implementation. However, one of the significant challenges faced was integrating operational data required for effective AI utilization. Unlike application development, where automation can be directly applied, the management of IT infrastructure targets production environments. This complexity necessitated a robust framework capable of precisely monitoring and swiftly analyzing system states.
The IT Infrastructure Division at DeNA recognized the need for enhancements in their operations, particularly concerning their extensive legacy systems supporting gaming-related services and the cloud-native systems for healthcare services. However, the long-standing internal tools and mechanisms led to a complicated monitoring environment for legacy systems. In contrast, the cloud-native systems faced fragmented observation methods across various components, resulting in critical operational data—such as logs, metrics, and traces—being scattered across different tools and platforms. This fragmentation made it increasingly difficult to monitor the overall system status and dependencies, especially in the stringent security landscape of medical and healthcare services, which require comprehensive data integration and analysis capabilities.
Dynatrace's Role in Addressing These Challenges
To tackle these issues, DeNA turned to Dynatrace as a comprehensive AI-driven observability platform capable of integrating all operational data while enabling cross-functional analysis of the entire system. With Dynatrace’s single agent, known as OneAgent, application monitoring becomes seamless, automatically detecting and visualizing complex components and their dependencies across infrastructure, applications, and containers.
Previously, teams needed to rely on multiple monitoring tools for operational oversight, but with Dynatrace, they now benefit from a consolidated environment that facilitates integrated observation across the systems. Its data platform, Grail, enables the aggregation of logs, metrics, and traces onto a single platform, allowing for correlation analysis powered by the Davis AI engine. This integration supports effortless investigation during system failures and enables insights into system states that were previously challenging to obtain.
Additionally, the flexibility of integrating existing monitoring tools and internal systems via APIs allows DeNA to progressively unify its monitoring practices while maintaining legacy frameworks. The healthcare service line also benefits from Dynatrace's log data masking feature, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations while facilitating the integration and analysis of operational data.
Positive Impact on Operational Efficiency
Tomoki Amano, Deputy Manager of the IT Infrastructure Division at DeNA, remarked on the significant improvements driven by the Dynatrace implementation:
"It is challenging to apply direct automation through AI for IT infrastructure management in production environments. We needed a foundation that enables accurate and rapid analysis of system states. The traditional approach involved all component owners working for two weeks to identify an issue, but with the implementation of Dynatrace, a single engineer identified the root cause in just two days. This transformation greatly enhances our efficiency in investigation and analysis. We anticipate that advanced operations will significantly reduce the labor involved in incident investigation, allowing engineers to focus their efforts on more value-added tasks. We plan to expand the use of Dynatrace to further drive operational enhancements in line with our ‘AI All-In’ strategy."
Shinji Tokunaga, CEO of Dynatrace Japan, expressed pride in supporting DeNA's AI initiatives:
"We are honored that DeNA has chosen Dynatrace as its observability platform amidst their efforts for ‘AI All-In’. The urgency to tackle the IT talent shortage and adapt workplace reforms magnifies the challenges of monitoring and incident response in an increasingly complex IT system. Dynatrace unifies operational data and expedites the issue detection and investigation process through AI analysis. This innovation supports enhanced operations while allowing engineers to concentrate on high-value tasks. We look forward to continuing our support for DeNA's initiatives and contributing to maximizing business value through next-generation operational frameworks leveraging AI."
