Huawei Unveils Collaborative Platform for IEEE P2413.2 Standards at MWC Barcelona 2025

Huawei Unveils Collaborative Platform for Energy Distribution Standards

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona 2025, Huawei made a significant announcement regarding the launch of a collaborative platform designed to meet the standards set forth by IEEE P2413.2 for Power Distribution IoT (PDIoT). This announcement took place at Huawei's Electric Power Summit, themed "Thrive with Digital, Accelerate Electric Power Intelligence."

The Challenge

David Sun, the CEO of Huawei Electric Power Digitalization BU, addressed the pressing challenges faced by energy systems today. Traditional line losses and reliability issues have prompted the need for innovation in energy distribution. Emerging global challenges in the era of new energies further complicate these issues. To tackle these challenges, Huawei is prioritizing innovations through cloud computing, edge computing, medium-voltage communication, and High Power Line Communication (HPLC) technology.

Transformative Solutions

One impressive example of Huawei's impact is seen in Xi'an's International Port Zone Energy Supply Center. After implementing Huawei's HPLC technology, the reliability of low-voltage communication improved dramatically to 99.9%. Proactive measures now allow over 97% of customers to be contacted within three minutes during power outages. Moreover, passive problem tickets in low-voltage single-family homes have seen a reduction of almost 50%, and line loss calculations are accomplished in just 15 minutes.

Additionally, a company in Shaanxi has successfully integrated distributed photovoltaic energy, coordinated charging for battery systems, and doubled its capacity, marking significant advancements in energy distribution applications.

Key Elements of Successful Innovation

David Sun outlined the key ingredients necessary for successful innovation in the energy sector. These include:
  • - Architectural innovation: Focusing on an open, adaptable, and systematic digital transformation.
  • - Model innovation: Incorporating AI capabilities to enhance energy production.
  • - Ecosystem innovation: Encouraging collaboration across various industries.

Such innovations are vital, especially in areas like energy forecasting, load forecasting, and increasing the autonomy of transformer districts.

Commitment to Sustainable Growth

Huawei is committed to driving sustainable growth and intelligent advancements within the energy sector by emphasizing key business scenarios and integrating digital productivity. The company aims to promote industry-wide collaboration through strategic partnerships. During the summit, notable leaders such as Bilel Jamoussi from ITU TSB and Roque Bacani from Meralco shared successful practices that underline Huawei's collaborative approach.

Oleg Logvinov, who heads multiple IEEE working groups, presented the IEEE P2413.2 PDIoT standard architecture and strategic initiatives tied to it. Together with Huawei, he highlighted the importance of a collaboration platform anchored in these standards.

Looking Ahead

As the future unfolds, Huawei intends to delve deeper into digital technology and artificial intelligence. The company aims to continuously refine the digital transformation processes based on real-world experiences, working alongside clients and partners to propel the digital and intelligent transformation of the energy industry.
