Okayama University Green Club Secures Gold Again at Chugoku Chorus Competition

Okayama University Green Club Shines at Chugoku Chorus Competition

The Okayama University Green Club has made headlines by winning the gold medal once again at the 64th Chugoku Chorus Competition, held on September 20, 2025 at JMS Aster Plaza in Hiroshima Prefecture. This achievement marks their second consecutive gold, a testament to their dedication and musical excellence.

In this prestigious competition, seven selected groups from various prefectural tournaments in the Chugoku region competed in the university youth category. The final rankings were determined based on the majority vote principle among the judges, ensuring a fair and comprehensive evaluation of all performances.

Miyako Komiya, a third-year student in the Faculty of Education and the main conductor of the choir, expressed her gratitude to the members and reflected on their journey:

“Through this competition, we have experienced significant growth in our technical skills. After the prefectural competition, we took the judges' feedback to heart, working diligently to improve our pitch and rhythm accuracy, as well as enhancing our emotional and scenic expressions. The hard work translated into a more fulfilling performance than at the prefectural level.”

Komiya also shared the motivation behind their participation this year, saying:

“Last year, we received the gold medal after a long time, which inspired us greatly. Following in the footsteps of our seniors who showcased a beautiful journey, I felt a strong desire to take on the challenge again this year. However, we faced obstacles, including one-third of our members being new and having different pieces to learn, which meant we were starting nearly from scratch. While the pressure was intimidating, it brought me immense joy to see my fellow members respond earnestly during practice. It was a reminder of the joy of creating music together. I hope this experience sparks a love for choral music in all members.”

The Green Club is now gearing up for their 72nd Regular Concert, set to take place on December 27, 2025, at the Kurashiki City Arts and Culture Center. They invite everyone to enjoy their powerful performance at this upcoming event.
