Advancing the Future of Renewable Energy at IDEE 2025 in Shenzhen

The 3rd International Digital Energy Expo (IDEE) has officially launched in Shenzhen, attracting leaders and experts from various sectors of the energy industry. This prestigious event serves as a platform for discussing innovative trends, new technologies, and effective business practices that can drive the digital energy sector forward.

During the opening ceremony, Zhou Jianjun, the Vice President of Huawei and President of Global Marketing, Sales, and Services of Huawei Digital Power, delivered a compelling keynote address titled "All-Scenario Grid Forming Technology, Accelerating Wind and Solar as Main Power." In his speech, he emphasized the critical shift towards carbon neutrality and the corresponding challenges faced by power systems due to the increasing integration of renewable energy sources like wind and solar.

Zhou highlighted Huawei's commitment to addressing these challenges through technological innovation. By enhancing grid forming capabilities across various scenarios, Huawei aims to support the transition toward a stable and efficient new power system, thereby catalyzing the reliance on wind and solar energy as primary sources of power.

Huawei's dedication to advancing grid forming technologies has spanned over a decade. The company has transitioned from traditional grid following practices to pioneering grid forming solutions, positioning itself as an industry leader. By integrating state-of-the-art hardware, robust architecture, and sophisticated algorithms, Huawei has formulated six critical grid forming capabilities that cover all aspects of the power sector—generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption. These include supporting short circuit levels and virtual inertia, damping wideband oscillations, ensuring fast primary frequency responses, facilitating efficient black start procedures, and enabling smooth transitions between on-grid and off-grid operations.

Globally, Huawei’s grid forming technologies have already demonstrated significant commercial success. Notably, in the Middle East, Huawei has helped establish the world’s largest renewable energy-powered microgrid along the Red Sea, which has proven resilient even under extreme weather conditions. In Xizang, China, a cutting-edge project employing Huawei's grid forming ESS solution has increased solar output substantially in a challenging high-altitude environment.

The Philippines marks the site of the world’s largest integrated PV + ESS project, featuring a staggering combination of 3.5 GW photovoltaics and 4.5 GWh energy storage systems, demonstrating Huawei's commitment to tackling the energy divide on a global scale. Through innovative coordinated control and plant-level technologies, this initiative guarantees a steady power supply for a remarkable 13 hours daily.

In addition to hardware and system advancements, Huawei is also reshaping the digital landscape of energy management. The introduction of the "device-edge-cloud" full-link synergy for PV and ESS intelligence allows for comprehensive lifecycle management of power plants. This development targets reducing operational errors, enhancing efficiency in operations and maintenance (OM), and increasing revenue from power trading significantly. With an impressive 50% improvement in OM efficiency and a revenue increase of over 10%, Huawei is setting the stage for the future of smart and automated energy solutions.

Huawei’s unwavering commitment to quality and excellence is evident in its systematic approach to product lifecycles. By maintaining high standards at every stage—from material management to production and delivery—the company consistently delivers unparalleled value to its customers. Moreover, by collaborating with various stakeholders in the energy sector, including industry authorities and power grid operators, Huawei aims to improve industry standards and foster large-scale, standardized, high-quality development in renewable energy.

The IDEE 2025 event marks a pivotal moment for the digital energy industry. As discussions unfold regarding new technologies and strategies, the collective effort to accelerate wind and solar energy adoption stands to revolutionize the power sector, underscoring Huawei's influential role in this transformative journey.

Follow the latest developments from IDEE 2025 as industry leaders converge on Shenzhen, paving the way for a renewed focus on clean and sustainable energy sources in the quest for a greener future.
