Nuvei and Visa Launch Revolutionary Agentic Payments for Merchants

Nuvei Partners with Visa for Agentic Payments

In a groundbreaking move within the fintech sector, Nuvei has successfully completed a proof of concept that allows merchants to execute first-party agentic payments using Visa infrastructure. This innovative initiative signifies a decisive shift in how consumers shop online, potentially transforming the landscape of digital commerce.

The Launch of Agentic Commerce

On July 2, 2026, Nuvei, the Montreal-based global fintech giant, partnered with Visa, Arvato Systems, and fashion label Kings and Priests to unveil a live agentic-commerce proof of concept. This project demonstrated how AI-driven agents can now initiate product purchases directly within a merchant's platform without requiring a separate payment gateway. The pilot involved various issuers across Europe, successfully navigating tokenized Visa transactions while adhering to shopper-defined parameters such as spending limits.

Phil Fayer, Chair and CEO of Nuvei, emphasized that this proof of concept reflects a pivotal moment in digital commerce, stating, "Agentic commerce is the next evolution of digital commerce, with AI not just finding products but initiating purchases."

Strategic Evolution

This major development responds directly to what merchants have indicated as their priority — the need for first-party agent capabilities. During a recent convening of Nuvei's Global Customer Advisory Board, there was a unanimous agreement on the necessity of robust controls that could eventually extend to include public, third-party agents as demand grows.
