Revolutionizing Urban Mobility: PTC and HOLON's Level 4 EV Development

In a groundbreaking development for the automotive industry, PTC and HOLON are set to redefine urban transport with the introduction of the "HOLON urban," a Level 4 autonomous electric vehicle (EV). This innovative vehicle is designed not just for mobility but aims to provide an inclusive, zero-emission transport alternative tailored to the diverse needs of urban commuters.

On December 11th, PTC, headquartered in Massachusetts, USA, announced that HOLON, a subsidiary of the BENTELER Group, has adopted PTC's Windchill+® Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) SaaS solution to support its development and market-entry efforts for this new EV. With a commitment to reshaping public transportation through inclusive and sustainable mobility solutions, HOLON is determined to provide a vehicle that is not only capable of accommodating up to 15 passengers but also offers features such as fully accessible boarding and disembarking, scheduled routes, on-demand service, ride pooling, and cargo transport.

The ambitious design and production process of the HOLON urban will leverage a flexible production concept allowing the manufacturing of multiple vehicle variations on the same assembly line. This is expected to enhance efficiency while steering HOLON towards its sustainability goals.

Within just six months of implementing Windchill+, HOLON achieved a remarkable transition from manual and paper-based processes to a fully digital product development environment. By utilizing cloud-based PLM, teams gain real-time access to accurate product information, facilitating more effective collaboration between development centers in Germany and the United States, as well as future manufacturing sites. This digital framework empowers HOLON to accelerate the transition from design to production of the HOLON urban, essential for realizing its five-year vision of creating sustainable and inclusive mobility solutions on a large scale.

Dr. Sven Herzig, Chief Sales Officer at HOLON, emphasized the significance of this development journey. "Building on BENTELER's nearly 150 years of automotive expertise, HOLON is evolving into a next-generation OEM with a clear focus on people and the planet. The full deployment of Windchill+ represents a critical milestone in developing HOLON urban, reflecting our commitment to redefining mobility for communities around the globe."

Robert Dahdah, Chief Revenue Officer at PTC, highlighted the changing automotive landscape. "As vehicles become increasingly electric, connected, autonomous, and software-defined, automakers face a pivotal moment in their evolution. With Windchill+, HOLON gains a foundation to manage this complexity and drive its vision of transforming public mobility."

Through Windchill+ and its broader portfolio, PTC is executing its vision of an "Intelligent Product Lifecycle," enabling manufacturers and product companies to build a data foundation for engineering that extends the value of that data across the enterprise. For companies like HOLON, this extensive utilization of product data accelerates AI-driven transformations across their organizations, resulting in quicker time-to-market for high-quality products, improved management of product complexity, and compliance with regulatory standards.
