Triumph Higher Education Group Expands Culinary Network Through Acquisition of Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts
Triumph Higher Education Group Expands Culinary Network
Triumph Higher Education Group has recently broadened its influence in culinary education by acquiring PICA Holdings Incorporated, the parent entity of the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts (PICA), based in Vancouver, British Columbia. This acquisition, effective as of April 1, 2026, marks a significant step for Triumph as it integrates PICA into its growing portfolio, which also includes the prominent Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, the largest culinary school brand in the United States.
The deal unifies culinary institutions across North America, providing an extensive network of accredited culinary schools focused on fostering career-oriented education. By bringing PICA into its fold, Triumph aims to tackle the skilled labor shortages in the hospitality and culinary spheres by enhancing educational offerings and expanding professional programs.
Jack Larson, the chairman, CEO, and president of Triumph, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition. He noted, "We are pleased to welcome the students, faculty, and partners of PICA to the Triumph family. PICA's commitment to culinary education, rooted in excellence, tradition, and innovation, aligns perfectly with our strategy to expand career-focused programs in hospitality and culinary fields."
PICA, which has been operational since 1997, is well known for its intensive diploma programs in culinary arts and baking and pastry arts. Its training model emphasizes hands-on instruction, small class sizes, and close industry ties, making it an attractive educational institution for aspiring chefs. The school has gained a strong reputation for developing graduates ready for the workforce, with many alumni now thriving in restaurants and hotels throughout North America and beyond.
As per Kirk T. Bachmann, provost at Escoffier, this acquisition will further enable Triumph to strengthen the culinary talent pipeline, enhancing opportunities for both students and graduates. The shared philosophies of both institutions underscore a commitment to nurturing lifelong careers in the culinary profession. They focus on practical training and deep connections with industry employers, ensuring students are well-prepared for the challenges they will face in their careers.
Following the acquisition, PICA will continue to operate from its Vancouver campus with minimal disruption to ongoing programs or students. Former owners Yves and Sylvia Potvin will maintain advisory roles, ensuring that PICA preserves its hands-on instructional approach and local industry relationships. Triumph has committed to further investing in PICA's facilities and programs to enhance the student experience and learning environment.
The merger not only broadens Triumph's educational offerings but also provides an opportunity for students at both Escoffier and PICA to access expanded resources, diverse employer partnerships, and career opportunities. By integrating programs and sharing expertise, Triumph hopes to cultivate the next generation of culinary leaders equipped to thrive in an increasingly competitive global market.
PICA has trained over 4,500 alumni since its inception, with graduates actively contributing to the culinary landscape throughout North America and internationally. This acquisition will undoubtedly enhance Triumph’s culinary education and workforce development capabilities, reaching a combined student population of approximately 8,000 annually.
