Tokushima's Exciting Urban Revitalization Initiative
In a historic moment for the city of Tokushima, the junction of urban revitalization and community engagement has taken a significant leap forward. The
New Town West District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project, spearheaded by
Hoo Corporation,
Haseko Real Estate, and
Haseko Corporation, recently opened its mansion gallery on September 6, 2023. This initiative introduces a blend of residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces aimed at significantly enhancing the urban experience while honoring the city's rich heritage.
A recent preview event gathered stakeholders including landowners, local business representatives, financial institutions, and media, showcasing the project's potential to reshape the community. The event was a resounding success, with numerous attendees expressing their enthusiasm and interest in the development. Over the last 14 years of preparation and planning, the collaboration has garnered more than
400 inquiries for informational materials, demonstrating not only local residents' interest but also a positive reaction from outside the prefecture.
The Vision Behind the Redevelopment
The New Town West area has a historical legacy as a thriving center for indigo merchants and boasts breathtaking views of the
Bizan Mountain, verdant riverfront parks, and the New Town River waterfront features. The redevelopment aims to breathe new life into this region by integrating modern living while preserving its natural and historical essence. A key feature of this project is the addition of
accommodation facilities and a
river station, intended to serve as a hub for river cruising, thus creating an attractive riverfront scenery and promoting urban living at its best.
The mansion gallery serves as an interactive showcase for the new district and features a scale model of the evolving neighborhood, a theater that encapsulates the futuristic vision of downtown, and exquisite model rooms that reflect premium living conditions. This exhibition not only highlights architectural aesthetics but also connects the present with the cultural vibrancy of the
Awa Odori dance festivities, which will be greatly celebrated in this area after its transformation.
