Nito Expands Psychiatric Home Nursing Services in Kawasaki City

Nito Expands Psychiatric Home Nursing Services in Kawasaki

Nito Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Itabashi, Tokyo, led by CEO Shotaro Kawasaki) is pleased to announce the expansion of its psychiatric home nursing services, specifically tailored for individuals facing mental health challenges such as developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and school refusal. Starting in July 2026, Nito will begin providing these vital services in the Kawasaki City area of Kanagawa Prefecture.

This expansion aims to enhance Nito's existing services, primarily offered in the Kanto region, and to reach more families in need of supportive care.

Background for Expansion into Kawasaki City

In recent years, there has been a marked increase in consultations regarding developmental disabilities, school refusal, and mental health issues. This change highlights the pressing need for continuous local support systems. Although the demand for pediatric mental health and psychiatric home nursing is on the rise, options for receiving such support remain limited in many communities.

The decision to extend services to the Kawasaki area comes in response to a growing trend in requests and inquiries from residents. It illustrates Nito’s commitment to developing a robust support framework in Kawasaki City, addressing both immediate and future needs. Notably, this trend is not confined to Kawasaki; similar patterns have been observed in all areas currently serviced by Nito.

A review conducted by Nito, involving 318 home nursing clients of all ages, compared data from 2020 with statistics from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Results showed that 88.9% of pediatric users received directives aimed at improving interpersonal relationships.

For adults, in addition to the traditional support for medication management and observation, there is an increasing need to address social aspects like independence in daily life, work engagement, and community transition.

The need for support in dealing with interpersonal relationships and social participation is similarly high for children facing developmental disabilities, school refusal, or anxiety disorders. This emphasizes that psychiatric home nursing encompasses not just symptom management but also a social work-like function helping individuals connect with their communities.

About Nito's Home Nursing Services

Nito provides home nursing services focusing on the mental and physical care of children with developmental concerns and adults with mental illnesses. Our dedicated staff visits families weekly, delivering tailored care based on each child's unique characteristics, challenges, and interests.

We serve not only those diagnosed with ADHD and learning disabilities but also those struggling with:
  • - Difficulty maintaining social ties due to school refusal
  • - Challenges in daily living
  • - Significant anxiety regarding interpersonal relationships

As of December 2023, Nito plans to expand its services into the pediatric sector alongside its established adult psychiatric home nursing, rooted in its previous service 'Kireini'. We have a successful history of delivering care to numerous children and families grappling with mental health issues.

Focusing on the living environment—which is the nearest to the child’s daily life—Nito emphasizes care that considers each individual’s future living conditions over the long term. Through this expanded service area, we aim to enhance support for those facing difficulties in their lifestyles and respond to community needs.

Supporting Community Life

Nito has already been actively engaged in assisting children with school refusal and social anxiety. We work closely with relevant organizations to support the community lives of our clients and their families. During case meetings, various professionals, including visiting nurses and specialists in developmental traits, collaborate to create comprehensive care strategies. This holistic approach is crucial, ensuring that our care aligns with what best serves each individual.

We are committed to transcending typical psychiatric home nursing, which often limits itself to symptom observation and medication management. Nito prioritizes care that encompasses living with connections to schools, families, and communities.

Future Aspirations

Nito stands firm with its vision: "Bringing light to solitude and weaving narratives into lives." We strive to facilitate connections with the community and promote social participation, focusing on individual quality of life alongside symptom management.

Through our expansion into Kawasaki City, we aim to build environments where individuals with developmental disabilities, school refusal, and mental illnesses can live confidently and securely. Our efforts will involve strengthening ties with medical, welfare, and educational institutions, thus enhancing our support systems.

Kawasaki nurses, such as Yamamoto, express enthusiasm about the expansion. They value the ability to connect with children in their most natural settings and recognize the importance of fostering those relationships. Listening to a young person’s thoughts, especially during volatile teenage years, can make a significant difference. The goal is to ensure each child feels they have a supportive ally, especially when they find it tough to articulate their struggles elsewhere.

Recruitment at Nito

To accommodate the expansion, Nito is actively seeking new team members. We welcome individuals with experience in mental health care such as nurses, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and physiotherapists. We also provide comprehensive training for those new to the psychiatric or pediatric field.
