A Unique Initiative at Fairmont Tokyo
Fairmont Tokyo is set to make waves as it prepares for its grand opening on July 1, 2025. Located at Shibaura, Minato City, this luxurious hotel aims to redefine the hospitality experience by warmly welcoming pets. At the center of this initiative is a charming Labrador Retriever named Serene, who has been appointed as the Chief Happiness Officer (CHO). In a bid to create unforgettable moments for its guests, Fairmont Tokyo’s innovative approach exemplifies the luxury of inclusion that the Fairmont brand has championed for over a century.
Introducing Serene: The Chief Happiness Officer
Fairmont Tokyo's initiative highlights their commitment to inclusivity, as Serene brings joy and comfort to guests. This delightful Labrador Retriever joined the team when she was just one month old and has since undergone training to ensure she embodies the hotel's values of warmth and hospitality. Having successfully passed the Japan Kennel Club (JKC) test in May, Serene is ready to greet guests in the hotel lobby as they arrive.
The significance of Serene’s role is driven by Fairmont’s belief that true luxury transcends the superficial. As the CHO, Serene's motto will be to “Make Special Happen.” This initiative not only creates a unique identity for Fairmont Tokyo but also promotes a sense of community among guests, staff, and even their furry companions.
A Canine Ambassador Program
The Canine Ambassador program, which already has programs active at eight locations including Vancouver and Boston, showcases the warm reception and interactive experiences offered by canine team members. Serene’s radiant smile and friendly nature will undoubtedly uplift the spirits of guests, ensuring they leave with cherished memories.
As guests interact with Serene, they are encouraged to greet her with “Fairmont.” Such interactions exemplify the hotel’s dedication to crafting emotional and memorable moments for visitors. Acknowledging Serene as the CHO not only enriches the hotel experience but cultivates a shared warmth that resonates with everyone.
Supporting Animal Welfare
In addition to her responsibilities at the hotel, Serene will participate in activities aimed at supporting animal welfare by closely collaborating with the non-profit organization, Tier Heim KOKUA, established in 2011. As part of the special hotel stay package called “Wandertastic,” 10% of the proceeds will be donated to assist animals rescued from abuse and neglect. Through these efforts, Serene will help foster a connection between guests and Tier Heim, raising awareness about the importance of animal welfare.
The Meaning Behind the Name 'Serene'
The name “Serene” was chosen to reflect the tranquility and warmth associated with her character, similar to the calmness of Tokyo Bay. It embodies the hotel’s brand ethos—offering a blend of urban energy and soothing tranquility. Serene’s role will be vital in creating a welcoming atmosphere for all who enter the hotel.
Pampered Comfort for the Guests and Their Pets
As part of the “Wandertastic” package, guests will enjoy a luxurious experience that includes welcome amenities for pets, organic breakfast, gourmet dog dinners, and even a custom-designed luxurious dog bed featuring the name of their pet. The bed is crafted by Ambient Lounge and provides comfort for Serene during her well-deserved naps, making it an essential part of the guest experience when they stay with their pooches.
Each room will also include a plush toy representation of Serene, called 'Serene Jr.', allowing families to bring home a piece of the warm experience. The “Wandertastic” package will not only elevate the stay for guests but also embark on a mission to create lasting memories.
